Located in Jimeixue village, Jimei Aoyuan was originally a small island shaped like a turtle, so it was called Aoyuan. There was a small temple on the island, called Aotou palace, also known as Qianli palace. It was destroyed by the Japanese Army during the Anti Japanese war. In 1950, Mr. Tan Kah Kee expanded the island into the present Ao garden in the ruins. Aoyuan is composed of porch, Jimei Liberation Monument and Jiageng tomb. Many of the sculptures in the garden are the soul of Fujian stone carving art. Many characters are various and vivid, and can carve various expressions of joy, anger, decline and joy.

Jimei's Liberation Monument contains the prosperous years of his career. Level 13 is the history of entrepreneurship, level 10 is the difficult years, level 8 is the eight year war of resistance against Japan, and level 3 is the three-year war of liberation. The stone column of the monument is engraved with all kinds of rare birds, monsters and exotic flowers. On the front of the pedestal is a relief of a group photo taken by the party and state leaders at the first National Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference. In front of the monument is a 7-m-high and 30-m-wide screen wall. In the middle of the wall is engraved with the word "Museum view". There are 12 relief sculptures with three maps of China, Fujian Province and Taiwan Province embedded in the middle, reflecting Mr. Chen's desire for the reunification of the motherland.
The ground floor of the monument platform is 13 stone steps, which are relatively broad, symbolizing the successful development of Tan Kah Kee Company from 1913 to 1926. Jimei school is also developing rapidly. It runs primary school, normal school, middle school, aquatic navigation school, business school, agricultural school and Xiamen University. The second level is 10 steps, with narrow steps. It symbolizes that during the 10 years from 1927 to 1936, due to the pressure of imperialist consortia and the influence of the global economic crisis, Chen Jiageng's enterprises closed, the scale of Jimei and Xiamen University was reduced, and there were two stone tablets on the platform, From the eight stone steps on the base of the platform to the three stone steps, there is a towering monument in front of us. The wall of the two-story pedestal of the monument is also covered with stone carvings. In the middle of the first floor is an inscription by Li Jishen, vice president of the people's Republic of China.
The three reliefs on Li Jishen's inscription record the grand occasion of the founding ceremony. On the right is "Chairman Mao raised the flag on Tiananmen Square in Beijing after the founding of the people's Government on October 1, 1949"; on the left is "commander-in-chief Zhu's military parade in front of Tiananmen Square in Beijing after the founding of the people's Government on October 1, 1949"; and on the middle is "group photo of all standing members of the Preparatory Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference in front of the qinzheng hall in Beijing on September 10, 1949.".

The stone carvings around the tomb can be said to be an exhibition of Mr. Tan Kah Kee's life story, which reproduces the patriotic overseas Chinese leader's life of devoting money to school and serving his country. In front of the mausoleum is a rectangular hall style pavilion.
Mr. Tan Kah Kee died in Beijing on August 21, 1961 at the age of 88. In 1988, the State Council listed the tomb as the third batch of key cultural relics protection units in China.
history
In his later years, Mr. Tan Kah Kee devoted almost all his energy to the construction of his hometown Jimei. Unfortunately, he died of illness in 1961, and many planned things had not yet been done. He once said that after the completion of Aoyuan, a park would be built in front of the open space by the sea. It is a pity that the long cherished wish has not been fulfilled. In order to fulfill Mr. Tan Kah Kee's last wish, the north side of Aoyuan was opened up as a park. The park started construction in 1992 and was completed in October 1994, covering an area of 30000 square meters and a total construction area of 5500 square meters. When you enter the garden, you can see pavilions and pavilions at different levels, which is the embodiment of the combination of Chinese and Western styles. Among them, the most representative ones are "Ao Pavilion" and "life Pavilion", both built in the 1950s and 1960s together with AO garden, which is an extension of the architectural landscape of Ao garden. There were statues of the leaders of the party and the state and the ten Marshals in the pavilion. Due to historical reasons, these statues were quietly removed in September 1961, which became a pity.
Aoyuan and Tan Kah Kee
Mr. Tan Kah Kee started to set up his first primary school in Jimei in 1913. By 1925, he had successively set up female primary school, kindergarten teacher, female teacher, normal school and middle school. He had also set up specialties such as aquatic products, navigation, agriculture and forestry, commerce and traditional Chinese culture. Accordingly, he had built public facilities such as hospitals, libraries, science museums, art museums, water plants and power plants. In Jimei, he had built pre-school education, primary education and secondary education It is a large-scale "Jimei learning village" with 12 colleges and universities. This is also unique in the country. Xiamen University was established in 1921. Mr. Tan Kah Kee's lofty spirit of patriotism and devotion to education is deeply loved by the Chinese people. Chairman Mao Zedong wrote a special inscription praising him as "the banner of overseas Chinese and the glory of the nation.". This is the first of tens of millions of overseas Chinese.
When he founded Jimei school and Xiamen University, Mr. Tan Kah Kee integrated traditional Chinese architectural techniques into western architecture and created a "Kah Kee style" architecture with a combination of Chinese and Western styles. Its shape and color are exquisite, which is another precious heritage left by Mr. Tan for Xiamen!
