Historical evolution
The white dove Nest Park was built in the middle of the 18th century. It was originally a garden villa of Manuel Pereira, a wealthy Portuguese businessman. It was rented to the British East India Company to set up its Macao Office. Later, it was regained by makuis, a member of the balira family. As makuish likes to raise pigeons, many pigeons live in the eaves, like pigeon nests in the distance, so the park gets its name.
Maguis appreciated the Portuguese poet Luis de camies very much. It is said that he completed part of the famous Portuguese epic "Portuguese soul" in the cave of the park (1524-1580). There is a bronze statue commemorating the famous poet in the garden.
In 1885, the property was purchased by the Macao government at that time and converted into an open garden.
In 1920, the mansion in the park was converted into a Jameson Museum and sold to the Oriental Foundation as an office in 1989.
Scenic facilities
The bronze bust of Jameson stands in a cave made of three large stones. The statue, cast by M.M. bordalo Pinheiro, was erected in 1866. On the front of the stone mound of the statue, there are verses from the first, second and third stanzas of Chapter I of Jameson's famous epic the soul of Portugal, and on the back there are Chinese translations.
In the center of the fountain near the entrance of the white dove Nest Park, there is an art sculpture called "embrace", which was made by Irene Vilar in 1996.
Along the road leading to the cave of Jameson, the pavement is paved with the Portuguese stone masonry with the theme of the epic of the Portuguese soul, which was made by Jorge Estrela according to the drawing of master Lima de Freitas.
Built in 1787, French geographer and explorer Mons. Jean franis de galaup, count de la Perouse, built the Observatory for astronomical researchers while his fleet was moored in taizai.
There is an artificial waterfall in the north of baigechao Park, which is designed by using two groups of natural overlapping rocks. There is also a statue of the sage Kim Dae kin (1821-1846), which was presented to the Diocese of Macao by the Bishop's Association of Korea in 1986. He came to Australia from 1837 to 1842 to study, and was the first Korean martyr.
In addition, there are small libraries, children's playground and fitness facilities in the park.
White dove Nest Park was once used as a nursery for East India Company to collect plants, and retained a variety of ancient trees. It is a green space with many kinds of ancient trees. Ancient tree species are false linden tree, false persimmon ginger, Hainan Putao, turning white leaf tree, Podocarpus arvensis, banyan and so on. A bakery tree in the main square is the first mother plant in Macao.
White pigeon Nest Park is located in the small hill, also known as Phoenix Mountain, because since the Qing Dynasty, there have been phoenix trees planted on the hill. Every spring and summer, phoenix flowers bloom and blush, adding beauty to the whole park.
