It is also the beauty of the sea and mountains, and the beauty of the water and mountains." so it is named "Huancui".

Historical changes
Weihai had huancuilou more than 500 years ago, and a real park about 100 years ago. Nowadays, Weihai is full of big and small parks: new Weihai Park, Harbor Park, seaside park, marine park In fact, the whole Weihai is a big park
The archives of Weihai Municipal Archives Bureau record the historical data of Weihai Park, and the blurred figures of those old parks are preserved in the photos. Looking at the image of the past, those places full of flowers are also full of history.
The past of huancuilou
Huancuilou park is an old park, its emergence, survival and development are closely related to huancuilou. The earliest Huancui building is a small tower built on the west wall of Weihai, which has a history of more than 500 years.
In the Yuan Dynasty and the early Ming Dynasty, frequent attacks by Japanese pirates became a major threat to national defense. In order to renovate the coastal defense, the Ming government set up guards and troops in the coastal dangerous areas to fight against foreign Japanese pirates. In 1398, the place named "qingquankuang" was chosen by the Ming government. Then the surrounding area was demarcated from Wendeng county and Weihaiwei was established. In the first year of Yongle of Ming Dynasty (1403), the garrison of Ming dynasty built a defensive wall in Weihaiwei. In the early days, the walls built with bricks and stones were not very strong, and they began to collapse only after 80 years. Wang Kai, the commander of Weihaiwei, is very anxious, but he can't renovate without money. In the second year of Hongzhi (1489), Zhao Heling, the vice envoy of Haidao patrol, was deeply worried about the situation of abandoning military equipment, so he used hundreds of taeshan incense money to rebuild it. Wang Kai and the people of Weihai were very grateful, so they donated silver to build the tower to praise Zhao Heling's merits in rebuilding the Acropolis.
The tower is located at the highest point of the west city wall, on the top of Naigu mountain in the west, overlooking the vast sea in the East, the mountains in the south, and the towering green mountains in the north. The tower is placed in a piece of green, so it is named Huancui tower. Because of the limited conditions at that time, we can't see the appearance of Huancui building directly today. According to the local records, it is a small building with exquisite workmanship, "painted pillars and carved beams, resplendent and resplendent, cornices and brackets, and eight windows.". However, the general picture of Huancui building in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China can be seen from the photos: the tower sits firmly on the high earth platform, the roof is hat shaped, the ridge line turns over, the tile eaves fly up, the north and south sides are closed, but there are no eight windows. Huancui building was constantly damaged by time and wind and dust. It was repaired and rebuilt during the reign of Shunzhi, Kangxi and Qianlong. There is no way to find out how different the Huancui building was from its original construction. It is certain that the reconstructed Huancui building is no longer as magnificent as it was, but adds a sense of historical desolation.
Huancui building is just a tower, not a park. The real huancuilou Park was formed in 1931. In 1930, the national government took back Weihaiwei from the foreign colonists and began to carry out large-scale urban reconstruction. First of all, the east gate and the north gate were demolished, the urban roads were widened, and the Weixin road and Tongyi road were opened. Then, the Huancui building was rebuilt, and a 4.8 hectare land was zoned downstairs to build a park. After reconstruction, the top floor of Huancui building is a two-story pavilion with 64 steps leading to the hall on the first floor. In the middle hall of the building, Zhao Heling, Ding Ruchang, Deng Shichang and other sages were worshipped. A pair of couplets on the gate post highly summarizes the original intention of building Huancui building: the resort likes Chongguang and comes to pick up Cuifang to recognize the vicissitudes of the city; the loyal spirit should not mince the phase, and share the same hatred with the enemy to return our beautiful rivers and mountains. In July 1931, huancuilou Park was built and opened to the public.
The completion of huancuilou park has added new beauty to the historic city of Weihai. But it didn't last long. This city boutique, which was elaborately built by the then government administration office, was completely burnt by a fire on a night in December 1944. The perpetrators were Japanese puppet troops. That night, a group of Japanese and puppet troops patrolling along the city wall on Mount Naigu hid in the top floor of huancuilou to keep warm because of the cold. As a result, the wooden floor was set on fire. Instead of fighting the fire, the Japanese and puppet troops fled. As a result, the fire took advantage of the wind, and soon the wooden roof was lit The next morning, people found that the Huancui building had been completely burned down. Only the 12 standing concrete columns and the green smoke scattered in the wind told people what had just happened
English Garden
After the British forced to rent Weihaiwei in 1898, a large number of British people poured into Weihai and built western style houses and gardens here. The British plant flowers everywhere. They not only build gardens in front of and behind their houses, but also plant flowers and plants on the streets, roadsides and public vacant areas. In 1904, they scattered the flower seeds to the triangle vacant area (now Triangle Garden) left by the intersection of three roads on the west side of Wukou. Later, they made a plan here, planting evergreen shrubs around the three sides, making it a fence wall naturally generated by plants, and planting all kinds of introduced plants and flowers in the garden. So people came here to enjoy the flowers and grass. Soon, a park was formed here, which was the first park in Weihai history. Because it is close to the dock of the former Beiyang Navy, it is named Wukou garden.
