The South Gate of the summer palace is located near East Lake Road in Kunming.

The palace gate of Qichun garden, in the southeast of the garden, was built more than half a century later than the grand palace gate of Yuanmingyuan and the second palace gate of Changchun Garden, so it is called the "new palace gate" and is still in use today. The gate of the palace has three rooms. In front of the gate, there are five shadow walls and five East and West courthouses. Inside the gate, there is a crescent shaped Royal River flowing through. After passing the Royal Bridge, you can walk further inside to the gate of the second palace. In the center is Yinghui hall, the main hall of Qichun garden. In the north of the hall, there are two long corridors connected with Zhonghe hall.

The palace gate of Qichun garden is in the southeast of the garden. It was built in 1809. It was more than half a century later than the grand palace gate of Yuanmingyuan and the second palace gate of Changchun Garden, so it is called "new palace gate". The gate is five rooms wide, with covered doors on both sides. The East and West courthouses and screen walls are built outside the gate. There is a moon river inside the gate, and the stone bridge can reach the gate of the second palace. In 1860, the gate of qichunyuan palace survived the robbery and was repaired in Tongzhi. It is a complete palace gate building that survived the looting and burning of Yuanming three gardens in 1900. In 1986, the main building was rebuilt. As the gate of Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park, the reconstructed palace gate basically kept its original appearance. Since then, people visiting Yuanmingyuan Ruins Park have come to the park and called it "the main gate of Yuanmingyuan".

present situation

After a long period of exposure to the sun and wind, the architectural components of the gate of the Qichun garden of Yuanmingyuan were damaged to varying degrees, especially the paint of the gate pillars had fallen off, exposing the internal materials. In 2003, according to the research of Yuanmingyuan Management Office, the restoration project of qichunyuan palace gate area was started. After the renovation, the ground of the new square of qichunyuan palace gate was leveled and the big palace gate was painted. This is the first renovation since the restoration of qichunyuan palace gate area in 1986.
