Library
Wan Fulin, governor of Heilongjiang Province and chairman of Heilongjiang provincial government, decided to build a new library building in Longsha Park of Qiqihar in April 1930 when he held the "Executive Council of Heilongjiang provincial government". It was completed and opened in October that year, and was named "Heilongjiang Provincial Library". Gao Jiaji, director of the Department of education, Zhang Qingqi, counsellor of the provincial government, Wang Weihan, Secretary General of the government, Pang Zuoping, director of the Department of finance, and others handled the matter in detail. After the completion of the site, the title record of the new library was made.
The building faces south. The roof of the building is covered with a piece of green glazed tiles. Facing the tiles is the tiger head. In the middle of the roof is a triangular relief of two dragons playing peony. At both ends of the ridge is a pattern of kissing the beast to swallow the ridge. The four corners of the eaves are carved with elephant heads, teeth and noses, and the side ridges are carved with exquisite and lifelike animals. The circular gallery is composed of 26 white pillars. The width and thickness of the wall is conducive to heating in winter and heat insulation in summer. The temperature inside the building is controlled to a certain extent, so that the preserved books are rarely damaged by insects.
The library collects 127900 copies of the Tang, song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties, some of which are rare treasures in China. There are more than 5000 rare ancient books (including Manchu, Mongolian and other minority languages) and 630 ancient books of 92 kinds. They have received many times of investigation, exchange and academic visits from Manchu Chinese experts and scholars in Japan, Germany and Denmark.
