Yuehui ancient city
Yuehui ancient city is the seat of ancient Yuehui county government in Hainan Province, also known as Yuecheng. It is located in Lecheng village, Boao Town, Qionghai City, with a history of more than 700 years.
Introduction to the ancient city
The whole Lecheng island is the scope of Lecheng village. In the lower reaches of Wanquan River and the upper reaches of Boao water city, it is a 3 square kilometer fishing village surrounded by water. Lecheng not only has a complete tropical plant community, scattered in the villages, but also has historical relics.
Historical changes
The existing buildings in the ancient city include: Town God's Temple, Qingshi brick ancient road, Guxian Ya pillar, ancient city wall and so on, showing a glorious history.
In 660 ad (the fifth year of Xianqing reign of Emperor Gaozong of Tang Dynasty), Yuehui county was first established, and it was first built in today's Yantang town.
In December 1300 (the fourth year of Dade reign of emperor Chengzong of the Yuan Dynasty), the county seat of Yuehui moved to Lecheng island.
In 1940, the Japanese army invaded Hainan. After landing in Boao, they first settled in Lecheng, which is a county government. The Japanese forced the villagers to tear down the city wall, carry the bricks, and build five turrets several feet high on the island. An ancient city in haoduanduanduan was torn down by the Japanese army. This was the first and the worst catastrophe that the ancient city suffered.
In 1957, Yuehui county and Qiongdong County merged into Qionghai county (later Qionghai City).
In 1958, when the great leap forward was engaged in large-scale steel smelting, local officials forced villagers to demolish bricks and build blast furnaces, which once again destroyed the buildings in the ancient city.
As the seat of the ancient county government, Lecheng once had a prosperous scene with many docks, masts, boats and shops. However, with the relocation of the county seat and most of the young people on the island going out to seek jobs, the prosperous ancient city has returned to its peace and tranquility before Kaifu.
Now the ancient music city has become a village in the island - Lecheng village.
Lecheng was originally built with a 372 Zhang long city wall, which tightly encircled the whole county. A gate was set up in the southeast, northwest and northwest to resist the invasion of Japanese pirates. But now, 700 years later, the county government has become a high land, and shops have been opened up as paddy fields. Only a small section of the city wall is left, hidden behind the farmhouse. That year's prosperity has disappeared, the only way to find its pulse is still a simple street.
At the beginning of 2009, the bridge between Lecheng and Chaoyang town was opened, which ended the history of only taking water to get in and out of Lecheng village, and also led the economy of Lecheng. Some of the old houses were replaced by new buildings. Walking on the streets of the old city, the buildings on both sides crisscross. In fact, it looks like a new building, but the backyard is still the old style.
Architectural style
In the middle is the main house, with neat square bricks on the outdoor floor; the main house is about 6 meters high, with simple wooden furniture; the high altar, which needs a ladder to carry incense; there are relief paintings at the junction of the gable and the roof, which are now fuzzy in color, and there are several swallows' nests hanging on the wall.
The main house is not connected with the wall, leaving a corridor leading to the backyard; the two rows of bungalows on the left and right are the utility room, kitchen and toilet; the last one is the animal pen, next to the locked back door.
The main house is a hard hillside roof, with a thin stone bar pressed on the eaves. I think it's because there are many typhoons here and the roof area is quite wide.
There is a row of small windows under the eaves for ventilation.
