Dagu bridge is designed by academician Deng Wenzhong, a famous bridge designer in the world. It is 243 meters long and 32 meters wide. The idea is "the sun and the moon shine". Dagu bridge, located between Jiefang Bridge and square bridge, was officially opened on July 6, 2003. After more than a year's construction, it has become the first bridge to be opened to traffic among the first five newly built bridges in Haihe River.
Historical evolution
Dagu bridge, which connects Wujing road in Hebei District of Tianjin with Dagu North Road in Heping District, is designed by academician Deng Wenzhong, a world-famous bridge designer, with a total length of 243 meters and a width of 32 meters. Its conception is "the sun and the moon shine", so it is also known as "the sun and the moon arch bridge". Facing the East, the big arch symbolizes the rising sun, while facing the west, the small arch symbolizes the moon, which forms an ornamental platform for pedestrians to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Haihe River.
Dagu bridge is designed by international bridge master Deng Wenzhong. Tianjin Urban Construction Design Institute and Lin Tongyan international engineering consulting (China) Co., Ltd. cooperate in the preliminary design. The young team of Tianjin urban construction design institute carries out the construction drawing design, and Tianjin urban construction group is responsible for the construction. Dagu bridge was started in July 2003, completed in October 2004 and opened to traffic in November 2005.
Dagu bridge, located between Jiefang Bridge and Bei'an bridge, was officially built on July 6, 2003. The design concept of the bridge is novel and unique. It is a "Sun Moon arch", which is composed of two asymmetric arches. The arc of the large arch is 140 meters long, 39 meters high, and inclines 18 degrees to the East, symbolizing the sun. The arc of the small arch is 116 meters long, 19 meters high, and inclines 22 degrees to the west, symbolizing the moon,. The arc length of the large arch ring is 140 meters, with an outward inclination of 18 degrees; the arc length of the small arch ring is 116 meters, with an outward inclination of 22 degrees. They are tied to both sides of the bridge by 88 suspenders, opposite to the semicircle viewing platform protruding from the outside of the bridge. After more than one year's construction, it has become the first bridge to be opened to traffic among the first five newly built bridges on Haihe River. Dagu bridge has a total length of 154 meters, a main span of 106 meters, a side span of 24 meters, and a maximum width of 59 meters. The design concept is "Sun Moon double arch", which is composed of two asymmetric arch rings. The large arch ring faces the East, symbolizing the sun, with a height of 39 meters; the small arch ring faces the west, symbolizing the moon, with a height of 19.2 meters.
In addition to the beauty, the 88 suspenders on the arch ring will also bear all the weight of the 106 meter main span bridge deck. This unique design turns the supporting force of the ordinary bridge piers on the water surface into the tension of the suspenders, which saves the piers in the river and truly creates a spectacular Bridge "across" the Haihe River.

Dagu bridge wins Eugene FIGO Award
On July 5, 2006, the International Bridge Conference held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA, the good news came that Tianjin Dagu bridge won the Eugene FIGO Award (the Eugene FIGO award was named after the late famous American bridge designer Eugene Figo, and was founded by the international bridge conference to recognize the landmark bridge that was built recently through imagination and innovation. The first Eugene FIGO prize was awarded in June 2002. Only one bridge in the world won this prize every year. Jiangyin Yangtze River Bridge in Jiangsu Province and Lupu Bridge in Shanghai won this prize in 2002 and 2004 respectively.
