According to the annals of Anxi County in the Ming Dynasty, shanhuiyuan was built at the foot of Fengji mountain in the second year of song Jianlong (961 A.D.), initially named "Long'an". According to the annals of Anxi County written by Kangxi of Qing Dynasty, shanhuiyuan was built in Fengshan in the Song Dynasty and is now known as Putuo temple.
About 100 meters in front of the site of shanhuiyuan, there is a cliff stone carving of Quannong, two meters square, six lines in regular script, which records officials of Song Dynasty coming to the temple to persuade farmers. It was published in the year of Xuanhe and xinchou of Song Dynasty (1121 A.D.), which coincided with the change of Qingxi county to Anxi County. The contents of the stone inscription are as follows: "live in the mountains, publish things, persuade farmers to work in autumn, Xuanhe xinchou, Qiantian Wu Gongquan, and long danghuang Zongzhi." Persuading the peasants is a special phenomenon in Tang and Song dynasties. The stone inscription talks about the relationship between the monks on the mountain and persuading the peasants. There was a large Buddhist temple in Anxi city. Shanhui temple is divided into front yard and back yard by Cliff stone carving. The front yard is in front of the cliff stone and the back yard is in the back. It can be seen that the scale of the temple in that year was large.
