Gaizi River

Gaizi river is located in the central part of Kashgar region. It originates from the northern foot of sarikoles mountain. It is formed by the confluence of Muji River and yamaya river at bulenkou, with a total length of 374 km. It flows through Shufu, Shule and yuepuhu counties and 41 and 42 regiments of the third agricultural division, and irrigates about 1 million mu of cultivated land.

Gaizi, Uighur, means gray. Gaizi river is named because of the fine sand in the water and the gray color of the water.

The river water of Gaizi river is mainly formed by melting ice and snow and spring water in mountain areas such as MUZTAG and Gongger. Because the geological structure of the upper, middle and lower reaches of the river is different, the water quality of different reaches is also different. The upstream river is mainly composed of boulders and schists, and the river is clear; the midstream river is mainly composed of gravel and sand, which is slightly turbid; the downstream river is composed of sediment, and the river is gray. There are 3 hydrological stations on the whole river and 11 reservoirs in the basin. The overall water quality is alkaline, suitable for human and livestock drinking and crop irrigation. Due to less pollution, there are fish swimming in the river and waterfowl playing on the river.

Development management

Hydropower development

Gaizi river basin is located in the southwest of Xinjiang in the hinterland of Eurasian continent. It is the second largest river in Kashgar river system. The ladder hydropower station project in the middle reaches of Gaizi river basin is located in aketao County, Kezhou, Xinjiang, and is constructed by Xinjiang Kezhou water conservancy and Power Generation Co., Ltd. of Guangxi water conservancy and power industry group. The project takes Bulunkou reservoir as the leading reservoir, and five cascade hydropower stations are planned downstream, with a total installed capacity of 620mw (megawatt). After all the stations are completed and put into operation, the average annual power generation is 2.266 billion kwh, which mainly includes irrigation and power generation, and also takes into account flood control and ecological improvement. The first level is gongge'er hydropower station, followed by Gaizi hydropower station, tuogayi hydropower station, wuytak hydropower station and Tutu · Xiuke hydropower station. In the development planning, hydropower resources are mainly utilized, and the joint regulation of Bulunkou reservoir to downstream power stations is fully considered.

Bulunkou Gongger Hydropower Station

The Bulunkou Gongger hydropower station, which is under construction, will install three generating units with an installed capacity of 200wm and an average annual generating capacity of 673 million kwh. The total investment of the project is 2.2 billion yuan, and the total design construction period is 39 months. After the completion of the hydropower station, it will benefit Kezhou and Kashi areas: improve the degree of soil salinization in Kezhou; alleviate the shortage of irrigation water for agriculture, forestry and animal husbandry in the Gaizi river basin without large reservoirs that can adjust the allocation of water resources for many years; it is estimated that it can effectively guarantee the irrigation of nearly 1.4 million mu of land and the improvement of nearly 1 million mu of salinized land in the Gaizi River Basin; and the electricity produced will be transferred to Kashi The power transmission network of Kashgar and Kezhou covers most parts of Kashgar and Kezhou. At the same time, during the construction period, more than 8 million yuan will be taxed every year, and nearly 1000 jobs will be provided directly or indirectly. After completion, it will provide local tax payers and employment.
