Ximatang is located by nanyong highway, the throat of Western Yunnan to Sichuan. It is backed by mountains and rivers. It has a vast view of rivers. The sky is vast and magnificent. The land is beautiful because of its abundant food. Thousands of mu of dry land around ximatang has nurtured generations of mountain people and witnessed countless dusty history.

Ximatang was founded in 1940. It starts from Xichang, 58 kilometers through the county to Xiangyun, and connects with k351 of Western Yunnan highway. The total length of the highway is 548 kilometers. The Xixiang highway (now nanyong highway) running through Sichuan and Yunnan provinces is passing through the broken cliff beside ximatang. It is famous for its height, danger and steepness, and is the most precipitous and spectacular on the whole highway. Walking here, we can see the wisdom and hardship of people climbing and chiseling walls to repair roads in Dayao and other places half a century ago.

Myths and legends

There are many moving legends about the origin of the place name ximatang. It is said that a long time ago, in longmashan village, zhaojiadian Township, a farmer raised a tall horse. One day, the horse gave birth to a pony with the body of a leading horse. When it was born, the horse was bound by a strange layer of slime, and its life was at stake. This scared the family of the horse owners. When they were at a loss, the pony struggled to swim down the Dragonfly river. When it ran to a big pond in front of Jiangtou village, it jumped down and took a bath In a flash, the foal was not only saved, but also grew fat and strong. After running home, he did countless good things for the farmers. However, one day, the dragon horse ran out of the house and never came back, and suddenly a tall and majestic mountain appeared behind the village. In memory of this charitable horse, the villagers named it Longma mountain. Today, the village at the foot of the mountain is also called Malong mountain. With long streams and fertile land around the village, it has become a beautiful and rich village. The place where the dragon horse had taken a bath was called the "horse washing pond" by the local people.
