Development history
At the end of Ming Dynasty and the beginning of Qing Dynasty, this is a Shanzhai called Jiayu village where Zheng Chenggong stationed troops. The site still exists. Later generations also carved "Yanping Jun Wang Yuan" on the boulders. Now it is a park, surrounded by flowers and trees, stone path around the cliff and forest.
Standing on the west slope to see Gulangyu is like a landscape painting on a vertical banner, which is a rare viewing angle. Jiaer garden is built beside Jiayu village on the top of the mountain. It is an antique castle building with pond water pavilions, pavilions, flower beds, lawns, natural stone scenery, and exquisite stone carvings of sleeping children.
Originally on the hillside between Hongshan mountain and Hutou mountain, the temple is magnificent and solemn. It is the second temple on Xiamen Island. There is an ancient road behind the temple to the east of Putuo temple. Between the two mountains, there is ventilation on all sides. During the rainy season, the wind blows and the rain is like weaving. Therefore, there is a spectacle of "Hongshan weaving rain", which is one of the eight scenic spots in Xiamen. The temple was destroyed in the early Qing Dynasty and rebuilt during the reign of Emperor Qianlong (1736-1795). In the Qing Dynasty, "zhennanguan" was built between the two mountains, and a thoroughfare was opened by lowering the slope.
In 1889, the xishen monk of Nanshan Temple in Zhangzhou was invited to the abbot of the temple to rebuild Hongshan temple. Later, monk Xi Shen went to Chongxing South Putuo temple. In the early years of the Republic of China, Jiang Yide donated a lot of money to rebuild the palace. In 1924, when the monk turned Nanputuo temple into a forest of ten directions, Hongshan Temple became the lower house of Nanputuo temple.
In the mid-1920s, the Buddhist movement rose in the Buddhist circles of Xiamen. Cai Jitang, ye Qingyan and other young Buddhist residents organized the "New Youth Association of Buddhism in Southern Fujian". Taking Hongshan temple as the site, they established the "Buddhist Hongshi Association" and held regular Buddhist recitation meetings and lectures. The abbot of shihongshan temple was Pu Song, a young monk in Taiwan. He not only fully supported, but also actively participated in various Buddhist activities. Later, he returned to Taiwan, and the abbot was succeeded by Miaozi. In the 27th year of the Republic of China, Xiamen was occupied by the Japanese. Most of the residents of Hongshan temple were separated from the mainland. After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, they were transferred to abbot caigu.
