Nanyuan Park

Shanghai Nanyuan park is used to be called Nanyuan. It used to be the former site of Quanzhang guild hall in Minnan and used to be the underground activity place of the Communist Party of China. In April 1957, the park was built by the municipal garden management office and opened on October 15 of the same year.

Nanyuan Park

Nanyuan park is located at 800 Longhua East Road, covering an area of 15838 square meters. This place was originally the former site of Quanzhang guild hall, a fellow town in Southern Fujian, and it is often called Nanyuan.

Historical evolution

In the 16th and 20th years of the Republic of China, after twice reconstruction, Quanzhang middle school was set up here, which was once the underground activity place of the Communist Party of China. In January 1957, at the first session of the second municipal people's Congress, the people's Congress put forward a proposal to transform the South Park into a park. In April of the same year, the city's Garden Management Office built the park, which opened on October 15 of the same year, and the name of the park still follows the customary name.

At the beginning of 1958, all the residents in the park moved out and were transferred to Luwan District Greening office for management. In September 1960, the non-staple food company of Luwan District set up a feed processing plant in the park, and the park was closed to the public. By June 1963, the above-mentioned borrowed and occupied buildings and land had been returned one after another, and the construction began in October of the same year. The restoration project was completed in early May 1964. On June 1 of the same year, the South Park was opened for the second time and tickets were sold into the park.

In June 1965, because it was borrowed as the construction site of the Huangpu River Tunnel Project on Dapu Road, the park was closed again. In 1975, construction began to rebuild the walls, roads and garden buildings. On June 11, 1979, 11000 square meters of green space in the northern half of the city was opened to the public. This is the third time that the South Park is open.

Main attractions

The main attractions of Nanyuan park are: (1) circular flower bed and mushroom shaped Pavilion. （2） The corridor covers an area of 53 square meters. There is a small pool in front of the corridor and Wisteria is planted beside the corridor. （3） There are waterside pavilions in the south, covering an area of 28 square meters. （4） Goldfish pond with water lilies. There are about 2400 trees in the garden. The main arbors are palms, Magnolia grandiflora, Podocarpus arvensis, Juniperus, Pinus koraiensis, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Albizia julibrissin, etc., and the shrubs are mosquitos, oleander, Hibiscus syriacus, etc.
