legend
Folklore
The relic tower is one of the oldest existing buildings in Shenyang and one of the famous "eight sceneries" in Shenyang. It is old-fashioned, "tawan sunset", charm is very good. According to legend, Emperor Qianlong visited Shengjing when he was on a tour to the East. Seeing the picturesque scenery here, he chanted a poem of seven wonders:
Tawan sunset, dark road, deep dike, crow trees.
Yandai Yuangang village is everywhere, and every household shines on the bright moon night.
There are various legends about the construction of the tower. According to legend, disasters often occurred in Shenyang in ancient times. Once there was a windstorm, which lasted for seven days and nights. As a result, the river stopped flowing, the well dried up, and the crops failed. The people could not live in peace. At this time, a monk came here and told the people that it was a disaster caused by the yellow dragon coming down from the sky. After hearing this, the people begged the monks to subdue Huanglong and save the people. After checking the topography of Shenyang, the monks confirmed that tawan was the dragon's head. This is the highest point in Shenyang. It is full of Yang Qi and good feng shui. Then he and his two disciples set up a high platform in tawan to worship the heaven. At last, Huang Long was locked up and the people lived a peaceful life. In order to thank the monk, the people built a temple called Huilong Temple on the dragon head for monks to live in. After the monk died, his disciples built the pagoda in the temple in memory of him.
True origin
In 1985, when the tower was rebuilt, a stone letter was unearthed, which revealed the true origin of the relic tower.
It turns out that Buddhism prevailed in the Liao Dynasty, from the emperor to the people, and everyone worshiped and believed in Buddhism, so the wind of building temples and towers was very prosperous. In order to pray for "good weather, peace and prosperity of the country, and happiness of all people", 1500 people volunteered to build pagodas. Each person's contribution is recorded on the stone letter to show his merits and virtues. It is said that the practice of raising funds and recording down the list of fund raisers and the amount of funds is handed down from here.
