Kuqa temple is the second largest temple in Xinjiang, only 4km away from Kuqa new city. The temple was first built in the 15th century and rebuilt in the 17th century. But in 1918, the temple was destroyed by fire. The temple was rebuilt in 1923, which has a history of 90 years. Every day, the local Muslims will worship here five times.
The temple is divided into temple theme and main hall for worship. The gate tower of the temple is 18.3 meters high, all made of green bricks. The towering gate tower and minaret are solemn and straight. The pillars are carved in Islamic style, with a dome like roof, which can accommodate 3000 people.
In the southeast corner of the courtyard of the temple, there is a famous religious court, which is the product of the unity of politics and religion. It is also one of the few Islamic judicial institutions in Xinjiang.
Kuqa Temple
Kuqa temple is a religious place for people who believe in Islam to worship. It is located at the highest place in heidunbazha, Kuqa County, Xinjiang.
Kuqa temple is 4km away from Kuqa new city, which is the second largest temple in Xinjiang after aitiga mosque in Kashgar.
The origin of history
After the spread of Islam in Kuqa, the religious building was built in the 15th century. It was originally a civil temple, and was converted into a wooden temple in the 17th century. It was rebuilt in 1923 and burned in a big fire. The existing temple was built in 1931 and was renovated in the 1980s. The former great mosque in Kuqa was burned in 1918. In 1923, the local Aji (named arimu) presided over the fund-raising and donation to rebuild the mosque. It was completed in 1927. The temple covers an area of 1165 square meters. The main building consists of two parts. One is the main body of the large temple, which has a revolving staircase to the top of the temple for AHU to call "naimazi". All of them are brick and wood structures. The second is the main hall for worshippers. The main hall is divided into two parts: the front hall and the back room, covering an area of about 65 square meters. In the southeast corner of the temple courtyard, the site of an Islamic religious court is preserved.
Layout structure
The gate tower of the temple is 18.3 meters high, all made of green bricks. The towering gate tower and minaret are solemn and straight. With Islamic style design and dome shaped roof, the pagoda is shaped like heaven. The worship hall in the temple is 1500 square meters, which can accommodate 3000 people.
There are 64 hexagonal pillars in 8 rows, which are decorated like color carving paintings, supporting the ceiling composed of 102 checkerboard paintings. It is worth mentioning that there is a prestigious "religious court" in the north of the small mosque, which is the product of the unity of politics and religion, and also one of the few Islamic judicial institutions in Xinjiang.
