Historical evolution

In 1951, in order to build the Sichuan Tibet highway, the Southwest Military and political Commission led by Deng Xiaoping decided to establish the predecessor of Chongqing Jiaotong University Southwest Jiaotong college in Chongqing; on November 7 of the same year, Southwest Jiaotong college was officially established.

In 1952, Southwest Jiaotong college was renamed Southwest Jiaotong college.

In 1953, Southwest Jiaotong school was renamed Chongqing highway school.

In 1954, Chongqing highway school was renamed southwest highway School of the Ministry of communications.

In 1955, southwest highway School of the Ministry of communications was renamed Chongqing Highway Engineering School of the Ministry of communications.

In 1958, Chongqing Highway Engineering School of the Ministry of communications was renamed Chongqing Highway Engineering School of Sichuan Province.

In August 1960, the Civil Engineering Department of Chengdu Institute of technology, the Hydraulic Engineering Department of Wuhan Institute of water transportation and the metallurgy department of Sichuan Institute of metallurgy moved to Chongqing highway engineering school, Sichuan Province, and jointly established Chongqing Transportation University. The school is located seven kilometers away from Nan'an District of Chongqing.

In 1971, Chongqing Jiaotong University was incorporated into Chongqing Institute of architecture and engineering.

In January 1979, the Ministry of communications decided to restore Chongqing Jiaotong University, which was directly managed by the Ministry of communications; in May of the same year, Chongqing Navigation Engineering School and Chongqing Jiaotong University merged.

In 1985, with the approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Chongqing Jiaotong University was added as the third batch of master's degree awarding units.

In 1986, southwest Water Transportation Engineering Research Institute of the Ministry of communications was incorporated into Chongqing Jiaotong University.

In December 1999, Chongqing Jiaotong school was established as a school.

In January 2000, the school was transferred from the Ministry of communications to Chongqing, implementing the management system of central and local co construction, with Chongqing as the main city.

In December 2000, Chongqing traffic technical school was put under the management of the school.

In February 2006, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Chongqing Jiaotong University was renamed Chongqing Jiaotong University.

In July 2011, the first phase project of Shuangfu campus of Chongqing Jiaotong University was completed;

In September, the University was selected into the second batch of universities with excellent engineer education and training plan.

In January 2013, the University was selected into the National College Students' innovation and entrepreneurship training program.

In June 2016, the University became a supporting University of the "basic capacity building project of universities in central and Western China".

In March 2017, one belt, one road, University Alliance of China and other universities was jointly launched with universities such as Beijing University of Technology.

On May 12, 2020, the University Alliance of Chengdu Chongqing double city economic circle was jointly established with Sichuan University and other universities.
