brief introduction
Jiang Zemin, former general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and former chairman of the Central Military Commission, personally inscribed the memorial hall of the birthplace of the PLA Navy, which is located in Baima Town, Taizhou City, Jiangsu Province. The memorial hall is divided into two parts: the former site of the headquarters of the third field army of the PLA crossing the Yangtze River campaign and the new hall of the birthplace of the PLA Navy. Covering an area of about 25000 square meters, the new museum was completed and opened on April 29, 1999. In 2009, the museum carried out environmental maintenance and exhibition hall design.
The former site was the manor of the landlord surnamed Wang, which was built in the late Ming Dynasty and the early Qing Dynasty. In early April 1949, the headquarters of the East China Field Army (three fields) of the Chinese people's Liberation Army was set up here. On April 23 of the same year, according to the order of the Central Military Commission, the navy of the East China military region, the first naval force of the Chinese people's Liberation Army, was established here. Zhang Aiping served as commander and political commissar. On February 17, 1989, the Central Military Commission issued an order to determine April 23, 1949 as the birth day of the PLA Navy, and Baimamiao, Taizhou, Jiangsu Province as the birthplace of the PLA Navy.
The former site of the birthplace of the Navy covers an area of 1500 square meters, with a building area of 800 square meters. There is a small two-story building of Qing style and several bungalows. The conference room of the command center of Sanye crossing the river campaign is on the upper floor, and the bedrooms and offices of three generals Su Yu, Zhang Zhen and Zhang Aiping are on the lower floor. There are four exhibition areas and six exhibition rooms on the old site, which display more than 50 cultural relics such as the carved wooden bed that Su Yu used to sleep in those years, the unicycle and wooden box, tea table, Taishi chair, lantern, lamp cabinet and copper basin used in front of the party during the Anti Japanese war. It reproduces the historical scene of Sanye crossing the Yangtze River in that year when the commanding organs planned strategies and fought a decisive battle against the Yangtze River. In 1982, it was announced as a cultural relic protection unit in Jiangsu Province. In 1996 and 1997, it was successively announced as the national defense education base and patriotism education base of Jiangsu Province. In 2006, it was announced as a national key cultural relics protection unit.
The new building is novel and unique, with strong modern flavor and the theme of the memorial. The main building looks like a warship. On the left side of the outdoor square stands a high mast symbolizing a naval ship. A number of retired bombers, fighters, super yellow peak helicopters, naval guns, torpedoes, missiles and other equipment are displayed on the square. The exhibition uses various forms of expression, such as objects, pictures, models, and other audio, optical, and electrical techniques, such as phantom imaging, video, audio, and scene production Many historical scenes, such as "fighting across the river" and "liberating Yijiangshan island", were created to give the audience a strong visual impact and achieve the organic unity of ideology, artistry and appreciation. The Memorial Hall shows the glorious course of the development of the people's Navy from five aspects of "the vicissitudes of modern times, the establishment of the white horse army, the power of the sea, the development and growth, and the deep love for fish and water". It has a VIP reception hall, a lecture hall, an interactive area and a 4D dynamic cinema. It is an ideal place for education, training, tourism and entertainment, and an important base for patriotism and national defense education.
The memorial hall of the birthplace of the navy has established a co construction relationship with dozens of colleges and universities. It has become an important patriotic education base, the first choice place for students' military training, new party, league members' swearing, double support and other activities, a propaganda point for patriotic national defense education, an important window for the construction of socialist spiritual civilization, and a display point for Taizhou spirit.
History of building the Museum
The reason of building the Museum
The birthplace of the PLA Navy is located in Baima temple, Taizhou city. There used to be a landlord's manor here. When the Chinese people's Liberation Army prepared to cross the river in 1949, the east line headquarters of the cross river campaign was set up here.
On April 23, 1949, the first navy of the Chinese people's Liberation Army, the East China Navy, was established here. On February 17, 1989, the Central Military Commission officially decided that Baima temple in Taizhou was the birthplace of the PLA Navy. The former site has been turned into a memorial hall. The battle room of the former headquarters and the bedrooms and offices of Su Yu, Zhang Aiping and Zhang Zhen have been restored. Revolutionary cultural relics and historical materials are displayed in the wing room and front hall. It is now one of the "national defense education bases for all in Jiangsu Province".
When General Secretary Jiang Zemin visited Taizhou for the second time in 1998, he inscribed the name of the museum -- the memorial hall of the birthplace of the PLA Navy.
New and old
The memorial hall is divided into two parts: the former site of the birthplace of the Navy and the new one, covering an area of about 25000 square meters.
The former site is a national key cultural relic protection unit. The headquarters of the birth of the Navy and the campaign of crossing the Yangtze River, as well as the bedrooms and offices of Su Yu, Zhang Zhen and Zhang Aiping were in a Qing style two-story building and several bungalows.
The new pavilion was completed and opened in April 1999. The main building looks like a warship. With a large number of documents and pictures, the exhibition hall reproduces the birth and growth history of the navy of "white horse building the army", "Weizhen Haijiang", "forge ahead" and "deep love for fish and water". It displays a large number of physical objects such as various warships and aircraft models, clothing and river crossing wooden boats equipped by the people's navy, showing the people's Navy from Taizhou Baima temple is a glorious course of development since its birth.
Introduction to exhibits
In 1982, the people's Government of Jiangsu Province decided to list the former site of the river crossing headquarters of Baimamiao in Taizhou as a provincial cultural relic protection unit. Comrade Zhang Aiping inscribed the inscription "the headquarters of the third field army of the Chinese people's Liberation Army crossing the Yangtze River Campaign" on the monument of Baima temple. Taizhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, Taizhou Municipal People's government, cadres and masses of Baima town attach great importance to the restoration and protection of the revolutionary site of Baima temple. With the strong support of the Provincial Department of culture and the Provincial Cultural Administration Commission, the phased restoration project of Baima temple has been gradually completed.
The exhibition room of Baima temple is rich in historical materials and contents. This paper introduces and reflects the majestic momentum of the third field army in crossing the Yangtze River. The people's navy was born in the war, fought for new China and marched towards modernization. With the warm care and support of the general office of the CPC Central Committee, the central archives and the archives of the Central Military Commission, we have obtained a number of extremely precious historical documents and photos, which truly represent the heroic posture of the PLA senior commanders in the small building of Baima temple.
Among the historical materials on display are the telegrams sent by Chairman Mao Zedong to Su Yu, Zhang Zhen and other comrades; the reports sent by the three field headquarters to the Central Committee at the headquarters of Baima temple; the precious photos of commander Chen Yi and commander Ye Fei inspecting the front line in person; the personal letters sent by Minister Zhang Aiping to the party history working committee of the Tai County Committee of the CPC; and the excerpts of the memories of proletarian revolutionaries such as Liu Ruilong and Guan Wenwei In addition, the people of Taizhou try their best to support the front, build roads and bridges, and welcome the troops to the south.
On May 12, 2020, the Navy comprehensive supply ship Hongzehu, which was withdrawn from active service, officially left the battle sequence of the people's navy and handed over to the memorial hall of the birthplace of the people's navy in Taizhou City, Jiangsu Province for permanent parking and collection, and will be open to the public as a national defense education base.
Introduction to Taizhou
Historical evolution
Baimamiao in Taizhou city is one of the old revolutionary base areas and a milestone in the history of the PLA Navy. During the Anti Japanese War, the organization of the Communist Party of China was established in Baimamiao area. During the war of liberation, after the three major battles of Liaoshen, Huaihai and Pingjin, the Party Central Committee held the second plenary session of the Seventh Central Committee in time, and put forward various policies to promote the revolution to quickly win the national victory and organize this victory, further arming the whole Party and army.
On April 4, 1949, Su Yu and Zhang Zhen, the leaders of the third field army of the Chinese people's Liberation Army, under the order of the Central Military Commission, led their troops to the South and arrived at Baima temple in Taizhou city to set up the headquarters of the crossing river campaign in Wang's small building.
On April 20, 1949, the Kuomintang government refused to sign a domestic peace agreement. On April 21, 1949, Chairman Mao Zedong and commander in chief Zhu De issued an order to march on the whole country. At the Baimamiao headquarters, Su and Zhang commanded the 7th, 8th, 9th and 10th regiments of the eastern and Central Route Army to cross the Yangtze River and liberated Nanjing, the reactionary ruling center of the Kuomintang.
As early as when the "three fields" went south, the Central Military Commission ordered the "three fields" to set up the navy of East China and appointed Comrade Zhang Aiping as commander and political commissar. On April 23, 1949, the East China Navy was set up at the Baimamiao headquarters, a symbol of the establishment of the people's navy.
After the liberation of the whole country, Baima temple has successively built Rongjun school, rehabilitation hospital, worker and farmer cadre school, Sucheng middle school and animal husbandry and veterinary school.
In March 1989, the Central Military Commission designated "April 23" as the birthday of the PLA Navy, and Baimamiao as the birthplace of the Navy. Since then, baimamu of Taizhou city has been officially recorded in the glorious history of the people's army.
