Central and Southern Institute of Nationalities

In May 1951, the Central South military and political Commission issued a notice to recruit students. The total number of students in the Central South region was 200. The first phase of students from the Central South Branch of the Central University for Nationalities began to enroll in August of the same year.

On November 27, 1952, with the approval of the Central South military and political Commission, the Central South Branch of the Central University for nationalities was renamed as the Central South Institute for nationalities, under the leadership of the Central South Ethnic Affairs Commission.

In 1953, the Central South Ethnic Affairs Committee suspended the Guangdong Institute for nationalities, and transferred the cadres and students who had been concentrated in the Institute of Central South University for Nationalities to Central South University for Nationalities as cadres and students of Central South University for nationalities.

In April 1953, Guangdong University for nationalities was merged into Central South University for nationalities.

In July 1953, there were 130 teaching staff and 569 students in the school. The organizational form of the school was changed from the three levels of college, department and group to the three levels of college, department and department.

In 1954, after the cancellation of the Central South administration, the Central South University for nationalities was under the leadership of the central Ministry of education, and the Hubei Provincial Department of education.

After the fall of 1956, there were 1062 students in Central South University for nationalities.

In 1958, Central South University for nationalities was approved to open undergraduate education, and officially became a full-time undergraduate university.

In 1966, the outbreak of the "Cultural Revolution" had a strong impact on the Central South University for nationalities, which brought a serious disaster to the school. In the autumn of the same year, the school was forced to stop enrolling students.

In 1970, the school was forcibly cancelled, and the Central South University for nationalities, which had been built and developed for nearly 20 years, was destroyed.

In 1980, with the approval of the State Council, Central South University for nationalities was resumed, under the direct leadership of the State Commission for ethnic affairs.

In the autumn of 1981, the school officially resumed enrollment, and the first opening ceremony for freshmen was held.

In 1985, Central South University for Nationalities enrolled the first batch of postgraduates.

In 1986, the school built the first museum of Ethnology in China.

In 1990, the University established Professor Wu Zelin scholarship fund, which became the highest level scholarship of the University.

Central South University for Nationalities

In 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the University officially changed its name to Central South University for nationalities. In December of the same year, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the State Commission for Nationalities signed an agreement to jointly build the Central South University for nationalities.

In 2003, the University became a University jointly built by the National Committee for democracy and people's livelihood and Wuhan city.

In 2006, the University officially obtained the right to confer doctoral degree, forming a complete degree education system of bachelor, master and doctor.

In 2008, the University obtained the qualification of recommending excellent undergraduate fresh graduates to study for master's degree without examination. In the same year, it co founded the first Confucius Institute established by Chinese universities for Nationalities with the University of Wisconsin plattville.

In 2010, for the first time in the history of the school, the goal of having 56 ethnic students was achieved.

In 2011, the University celebrated its 60th anniversary; in the same year, with the approval of the Ministry of education, the University became a university with the right to judge professors.

In 2013, the school's Ethnology was approved as a mobile post doctoral research station.

In 2015, the University became a University jointly built by the National People's Commission, the Ministry of education and the people's Government of Hubei Province.

In July 2019, he was selected into the Planetary Science Alliance of Chinese universities.
