Dazhong Bridge

Dazhong bridge is located at the west end of Huanshan Road, tianwai village, Taishan West Road. It was founded by Feng Yuxiang in 1935. The bridge is made of arched stone, with iron railings on it. It spans the valley entrance of Xixi River. It is a single span arch bridge with stone piers and bridge deck. The arch height is 5.45m, the span is 16.15m, the bridge deck is 2.8m wide and 46.2m long. The bridge is erected with iron railings. The arched lintel is engraved with the official script "Dazhong bridge". The bridge was built for the convenience of residents when Feng Yuxiang lived in Mount Tai in 1935. It was named Dazhong bridge. 　　

Mr. Feng was injured when he crossed the river from here. He immediately thought: poor mountain people often carry more than a hundred kilograms of firewood on their shoulders. How dangerous it is to cross the river from here! What's more, after the mountain torrents broke out in midsummer, the river was blocked, so it was difficult for mountain people to make a living by selling firewood. So he saved his living and raised money to build the bridge in 1935. Whether in Zhangjiakou or in his hometown of Chaoxian County, he has donated money to build bridges for the convenience of the masses. In 1933, Feng Yuxiang lived in seclusion in Mount Tai for the second time, and set up 15 Wuxun primary schools in the suburbs of Mount Tai. The head school was located in Xiaowangzhuang, the southern foot of Mount Tai. He funded the children of poor people to go to school. At that time, his small science laboratory was on the edge of Xiaowangzhuang in the west of the foot of the mountain. To go to the science laboratory, we had to go through a ditch. The water of this ditch flows down from Heilongtan. On weekdays, the water is not big. People can walk on the stones above the water. But in summer and autumn, the water potential increases sharply, so people have to "look at the river and sigh". One day, Mr. Feng took a walk to the river, walked several times, pointed to a place and said, "you can build a wooden bridge here." after a few days, the soldiers of the pistol camp built a wooden bridge at the designated place. But one night, the storm came, and the water rushing down the mountain broke the bridge. The next day, Mr. Feng went to check the terrain again and started the new construction after selecting new sites. This time, a stone bridge was built, all of which were made of stones from Mount Tai. In order to save money, the stones, slabs and strips made by the masons were carried to the bridge site by the soldiers of the pistol camp. When building the bridge, Mr. Feng often visited the construction site.

After the completion of Dashiqiao, its adjutant pan Yunyu came to ask Mr. Feng, "would you please give me a name?" Mr. Feng pondered a little, wrote "Dazhong bridge", and then said, "isn't our original intention to build this bridge for the public?"
