historical background
During the first cooperation between the Kuomintang and the Communist Party, Ye Jianying served as chief of staff and head of the new regiment of the second division of the Guangdong army founded by Sun Yat Sen. At that time, the revolutionary forces developed rapidly. In order to strengthen the ranks, comrade Ye Jianying personally established an independent battalion of the revolutionary new army in Xiangzhou, and concurrently served as the battalion commander for military and political training. On the night of April 25, 1925, traitors lurking in the army colluded with local tyrants to launch a mutiny. Late at night, after the traitors and other officers and soldiers were asleep, they blew their bugles, and the officers who heard them fell into a pool of blood under the random gunfire. This is the bloody and shocking "Xiangzhou mutiny" in history. On hearing the news, comrade Ye Jianying, who was on the eastern expedition, rushed back to Xiangzhou to quell the rebellion, reorganize the troops, provide for the families of the martyrs, and bury the bodies of the dead comrades in Shizishan. This is the origin of the martyr's tomb, the later martyr's cemetery.
layout
The cemetery is mainly composed of garden, memorial archway, platform, 27 martyrs' tombs, Lai Zhi Pavilion and relief statue group. The cemetery covers an area of more than 10000 square meters. The main body consists of six parts: garden, archway, sacrificial platform, Mausoleum, Lai Zhi Pavilion and wall sculpture. They stand by the mountains, high and steep, connected by stone steps, facing the sea, majestic and solemn. The entrance of the cemetery is on the side of Fenghuang road in Xiangzhou. The gate of huangwafei wall and the gate of vermilion fence are engraved with the name "Zhuhai martyrs cemetery" inscribed by Marshal Ye Jianying on the marble on both sides. Enter the gate, facing the flower bed, red flowers like fire. Walking around the flower bed, you can see a stepped stone path leading to the top of the mountain. Walking up the stone steps, a tall archway is displayed. On the archway is engraved with the big gold characters of "Xiangzhou martyr's tomb". This is Ye Jianying's handwriting on New Year's day. On both sides of the archway is engraved a pair of couplets, which says: "blood stains Xiangzhou for thousands of years; tears touch Shishan for thousands of years.". Walking up the stone steps, I came to the sacrificial altar. On the wall of the front of the altar, there was inlaid with marble. On it was engraved the words "Xiangzhou martyr · send Manjianghong" written by Marshal Ye Jianying in 1925. In the words, it was written: "I remember talking about the tiger tent and the moon in the spring. In the middle of the night, the sound of gunfire started, and the wind stopped On the platform is an open flat land. 27 tombs are arranged on both sides of a pavilion. This is the cemetery of 27 officers killed in the "Xiangzhou mutiny". Each tomb has a monument engraved with the names and biographies of the martyrs. The pavilion is supported by four stone pillars. The name of "Lai Zhi Pavilion" is engraved on the pavilion, which means to reward those who have sacrificed their lives for the revolution. On the large stone tablet of the pavilion, the legend of Lai Zhi Pavilion written by Marshal Ye Jianying is engraved. The inscription is thick and long, expressing the memory of revolutionary martyrs. On the huge cliff behind the cemetery, there are 103 relief figures, 38 meters wide and 4.5 meters high, which are extremely spectacular. The figures in the relief depict the revolutionary process of Zhuhai people in different historical periods from 1921 to 1949.
