Atomic City Memorial
Atomic City Memorial Hall, fully known as the memorial hall of Qinghai Atomic City national patriotic education demonstration base, is a core component of the Atomic City national patriotic education demonstration base project, located in Xihai Town, Haiyan County, Qinghai Province.
Location profile
Atomic City Memorial Hall is in the east of Wang Luobin music and art museum. The name of "national patriotic education demonstration base of Qinghai Atomic City" in front of the memorial hall is inscribed by general Zhang Aiping. There is a sculpture in front of the museum, which is said to show the shape before the atomic bomb.
Background of the Museum
Xihai town is the site of 221 plant, China's first nuclear weapon research and development base. In 1987, in order to adapt to the changes in the international environment and demonstrate the Chinese government's will to ban and destroy nuclear weapons in an all-round way and maintain world peace, the relevant departments made a decision to cancel the 221 plant. In 1993, the base was handed over to the local government after it was decommissioned. Qinghai Province named it Xihai town and designated it as the capital of Haibei Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. In 2001, Qinghai Atomic City was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit by the State Council. In November 2005, the atomic city was designated as the national patriotic education demonstration base.
In 2006, the national development and Reform Commission officially approved the construction of the national patriotism education demonstration base project of Atomic City, with a total investment of more than 82 million yuan. It is composed of memorial hall, memorial garden, detonation test field, underground command center and monument, covering an area of 12.1 hectares. Now, the demonstration base that shows the "two bombs spirit" and "base spirit" of fearing violence, working hard and climbing the peak bravely has been built and opened up.
Overview of the memorial
Atomic City Memorial Hall covers an area of 9615 square meters. It is a milky white semi shelter structure. The whole building is solemn and solemn. When you are in it, you can't help but think of those extraordinary years. On the lintel of the entrance of the memorial hall, there are three huge blue and black stone carvings. In the middle of the stone carving is a nuclear fission pattern, surrounded by traditional Chinese patterns such as eight trigrams and Tai Chi. Such a design reflects the Chinese people's desire for harmony and peace.
On both sides of the stone carvings are also inlaid with two small stone carvings engraved with peace doves and the grassland scenery of Jinyintan. The two pieces of stone carvings complement each other with the theme stone carvings, highlighting the eternal theme of "seeking harmony and yearning for peace" of Chinese people.
In front of the memorial hall is a square that can accommodate hundreds of people. On the left side of the square stands an iron monument to peace, symbolizing the Chinese people's determination to pursue peace.
The memorial hall is divided into two floors. The second floor is a temporary exhibition hall, which can hold various exhibitions at any time. The five exhibition halls on the first floor show the stormy history of 221 factory and the spirit and style of the pioneers of the two bombs and the scientific and technological personnel and staff of 221 factory.
Sculpture in front of the Museum
On the square in front of the memorial, there is a most eye-catching sign - the theme sculpture "gathering". It stands on the east side of the entrance and shows the history of the atomic city with a distinctive theme image.
This "gathering" not only has the realism of nuclear fusion, but also has the meaning of gathering the strength of the whole Chinese people and composing a magnificent poem. The spiral image symbolizes the Chinese people's spirit of cohesion, perseverance and perseverance. The weathering corrosion resistant steel selected by "Ju" is derived from the external protection material of semi bunker building unique to the simulated nuclear weapon development base.
In fact, the original design of "Ju" was 20 meters high. In order to form a sharp contrast with the distant mountains, it was finally decided to increase the height by 5 meters when entering the construction stage, so that "Ju" is worthy of being a brand-new absolute landmark of Atomic City.
"Gathering" was written by Professor Wang Peibo of Sculpture Department of Academy of fine arts of Tsinghua University. In addition to the theme sculptures such as Ju, Gao Zhan, Yuan Jian, united efforts and collective wisdom, the scene sculptures are also Wang Peibo's masterpieces. Although these sculptures are solidified, behind them are moving fragments from the history of Atomic City, showing the builders' loyalty to faith and career.
Copper relief
On the front wall of the Atomic City Memorial Hall, there are three giant copper reliefs.
The sun on the right side of the relief in the middle is blazing, and the rushing river water on the lower left sets off the sun. The central part of the picture is released in a blunt radial image, implying the huge energy of nuclear fission. The sun and moon, water and fire, yin and yang are used to show the great shore of nature. This decorative relief, known as "natural energy", is the central theme of the three relief sculptures. The abstract and concrete methods are intertwined, integrating people's reverie with nature and technology.
According to the designer, Professor Du Hongyu of Sculpture Department of Academy of fine arts of Tsinghua University, the Sculpture Department of Academy of fine arts asked five teachers to make five plans according to their own understanding, and finally selected his three reliefs with the themes of "natural energy", "towards peace" and "harmonious coexistence".
According to the preliminary requirements of the design concept, the "two bombs" should not be too realistic. Therefore, "natural energy" should be used to express it, because "nuclear energy" is also one of the natural energy. The relief theme of "running for peace" is very bright. The picture shows young men and women roaming in the air in symbolic and romantic ways. In front of them is a group of doves of peace, which symbolizes the love of life and life and the persistent pursuit of beauty and peace of all mankind and even the Chinese people. The relief "harmonious coexistence" shows the theme of harmonious coexistence of all things in nature. In the vast Qinghai Plateau, the mountains are magnificent, the water and grass are luxuriant, the cattle and sheep are leisurely, and the two galloping horses symbolize the pioneering spirit and the desire for harmonious coexistence.
Five exhibition halls
There are five exhibition halls in the memorial hall, which are arranged in a circle around the circular hall. The five exhibition halls record the vicissitudes of 221 factory.
Exhibition hall 1
The first exhibition hall is called "historical choice". This exhibition hall mainly presents the importance of nuclear industry to national development in the form of pictures and the great feat of scientific and technological personnel in breaking the nuclear threat of the western world and Founding China's own nuclear industry in the 1950s under the leadership of the first generation of leaders of the people's Republic of China. In order to collect these pictures, relevant departments have contacted Xinhua news agency, China Academy of Engineering Physics, China National Nuclear Industry Corporation, Bayi film studio and other units successively since April 1, 2008, and obtained strong support. Xinhua donated 64 precious pictures to the memorial at one time, some of which were first seen by the audience.
Exhibition hall 2
The exhibition hall adjacent to the first exhibition hall is called "years of passion". This exhibition hall mainly shows the hard work of the builders of 221 factory to the audience through pictures, objects and simulated scenes.
The wind and snow are vast, the distant mountains are solemn, and three dark green tents are tied up in the depths of the vast grassland. The snow fell down the tarpaulin, and two shovel in front of the tent stood in the cold wind as if waiting for the master's return. This is a simulation scene in the second exhibition hall. This scene truly reproduces the scene of the first group of builders of 221 factory marching into the Jinyintan grassland with an altitude of more than 3000 meters to start infrastructure construction in November 1958.
Starting from three tents, the immortal legend written by the builder of 221 factory on the grassland of Jinyintan has been sublimated into a spiritual force that will always inspire us to forge ahead.
Exhibition hall 3
Located on the side of "passion years", the exhibition hall is "climbing the peak bravely". This exhibition hall restores the production scenes of No.102 station and No.2 workshop in No.1 Workshop of 221 factory.
The first workshop, also known as the assembly workshop, is the core Department of atomic bomb manufacturing. On October 16, 1964, China's first atomic bomb successfully exploded in Lop Nor, Xinjiang, was shipped from here.
Workshop 2 is where the workers boil explosives. The restoration and exhibition of these two workshops fully shows the mystery of the atomic bomb making process, and the watchpost between workshop 1 and workshop 2, which is restored according to the ratio of 1:1 in the exhibition hall, shows this atmosphere incisively and vividly.
It is worth mentioning that this exhibition hall displays a giant sand table reflecting the panorama of 221 factory and many necessary instruments and instruments for making atomic bomb, which will surely arouse strong interest of visitors.
After the decommissioning of plant 221, many of the equipment in the plant were transferred to other units. After hearing that the Atomic City Memorial Hall will be built in Xihai Town, these units donated 186 pieces of instruments and instruments used in the atomic bomb production process of 221 factory to the memorial hall to express their memory of those years.
Exhibition hall 4
Next to hall 3 is "Oriental giant sound", which uses high-tech phantom imaging technology to show visitors the shocking scene of the first atomic bomb and the first hydrogen bomb test.
