Luhuding nature reserve is a nature reserve built after DAWULING Nature Reserve in Xinyi City, Guangdong Province. It is located at the highest point of the eastern foot of Yunwu mountains in western Guangdong Province. There is a large volcanic lake on the top of the water dividing pass between Magui and Qianpai. Wild deer used to drink water, so it is named luhuding. The lake is wide and clear.

Luhuding nature reserve is under the jurisdiction of state-owned Houyuan forest farm. It was approved as Maoming Nature Reserve in 2005 and is now applying for Provincial Nature Reserve.

Main attractions

Luhuding is located in Yunwu Mountain range. It is connected with DAWULING Provincial Nature Reserve in the West. It straddles Heshui, Qianpai, Pingtang and Magui towns in Xinyi, with a planning area of 12898.9 hectares, 3210.7 hectares in China and 9688.2 hectares in collective area. It has been basically classified as ecological public welfare forest

. The reserve is located in the intersection area of tropical and subtropical zone, with superior natural conditions and rich resources. The forest coverage rate of the reserve is 76.29%. The area of evergreen broad-leaved forest with strong primary nature in the reserve is 4945.6 hectares, accounting for 38.34% of the total area of the reserve. It has dense vegetation, good ecological environment, continuous mountains and rich water resources. The main rivers originating from the reserve are Caojiang River, huanghuajiang River and Luodingjiang river. It is an important ecological barrier and water conservation forest area in western Guangdong, and also an important water conservation forest area in Xijiang River Basin It is of great significance for regional ecological environment protection, ecological security, ecological civilization and regional sustainable development to conserve water resources in forest areas.

974 species of wild vascular plants belonging to 567 genera and 189 families were preliminarily identified, including 6 species of national key protected plants, namely golden dog, Alsophila spinulosa, black Alsophila spinulosa, Fokienia hodginsii, Cinnamomum camphora, Ailanthus altissima and other national second-class protected plants, as well as a wide range of Southern herbs, with excellent natural ecology. In the natural mixed forest on the hillside around the lake, the mountain flowers are brilliant and refreshing all year round. At present, wild peach flower, wild plum flower, fire dragon flower, camellia flower, gangren flower and chicken foot flower are in full bloom, with a strong fragrance.

There are 87 species of wild terrestrial vertebrates in 45 families, 23 orders, 4 classes, including 22 species of national key protected animals, such as megalopsis, python, Golden Eagle, white shoulder carving, pangolin, golden turtle, stone frog, cobra, mountain snake, bamboo leaf green snake, etc. it is a rare biological resource gene bank in western Guangdong.

At the same time, the climate is warm and humid, the geographical environment is complex, and the ecosystem is complex and diverse: there are primary secondary forest and shrubbery, as well as broad-leaved forest, coniferous and broad-leaved mixed forest, Chinese fir forest, Cryptomeria fortunei forest, etc., with rich forest landscape. The establishment of nature reserves will play an important role in maintaining regional biodiversity and natural landscape diversity.
