Nanjing Library, abbreviated as NaNTU, is the third largest library in China, the fourth largest library in Asia, the national first-class library, the first batch of national key protection units of ancient books, and the document resource guarantee center of Jiangsu Province.
Nanjing Library, formerly known as Jiangnan library founded in 1907, is the first public library in China. In 1927, it was changed into Guoxue Library of National Central University. In 1933, the national government established the National Central Library. In 1952, Guoxue library and the original central library merged into the current Nanjing Library.
By the end of 2013, Nanjing Library had a total collection of more than 11 million books, second only to the National Library of China and Shanghai Library. Historical evolution
The predecessor of Nanjing Library is Jiangnan library founded by duanfang, governor of Qing Dynasty.
In 1927, due to the implementation of the university district system, it was renamed the National Library of the fourth Sun Yat sen University.
In May 1928, it became the library of Sinology of National Central University.
In October 1929, the university district system was abolished and named Jiangsu Provincial Guoxue library, which is directly under the Education Department of Jiangsu Province.
In October 1932, it was incorporated into the National Nanjing Library.
In April 1933, the Ministry of education of Nanjing national government entrusted Jiang Fucong to build the National Central Library, which is located in Chengxian street.
In 1937, he moved to Chongqing.
In 1946, he returned to Nanjing.
On March 19, 1950, the central library was renamed the National Nanjing Library by the order of the central Ministry of culture.
In July 1954, when Jiangsu Province was founded, the Ministry of culture renamed the National Nanjing Library Nanjing Library.
In 2002, the construction of the daxinggong area (New Library) of Nanjing Library was officially started.
