Historical evolution

In 1991, the high dam of Tianshengqiao Hydropower Station was built, and the rebellious Nanpanjiang River was cut off by the high dam of Tianshengqiao Hydropower Station, forming Wanfeng Lake. The hydropower station provided sufficient energy for Southwest China, effectively promoted the economic development of Yunnan, Guizhou, Guangxi and Guangdong, opened the prelude of power transmission from west to East, and played an important role in alleviating the power shortage in Guangdong and stabilizing the operation of southern power grid Premier Li Peng personally inscribed the plaque of Tianshengqiao Hydropower Station. After being intercepted by the high dam of Nanpanjiang River, a freshwater lake with a depth of more than 170 meters, a length of 140 kilometers and a water storage capacity of 10.8 billion cubic meters was formed. In January 1994, the State Council approved the Malinghe gorge Wanfeng Lake as a national key scenic spot.

In January 2004, the Ministry of land and resources of the people's Republic of China issued a letter to establish Xingyi National Geopark. Wanfeng Lake has become an important part of Xingyi National Geopark.
