Shanghai International Art Museum

Shangshang International Art Museum is a non-profit private art museum which carries out all kinds of art exhibition, collection, discussion, exchange, public education and social and cultural services. It was founded in September 2006, and its predecessor is Beijing Shangshang Art Museum.

Shangshang International Art Museum is the first international art museum in Songzhuang Art District. It is located in the center of Songzhuang Art District, covering an area of 40 mu and covering an area of more than 20000 square meters. It is the largest comprehensive art museum in China. The building was designed by curator Li Guangming himself.

The purpose of building the Museum

Shangshang International Art Museum aims at diversity and openness, establishing a multi-disciplinary exhibition space for contemporary art; providing artists with superior creative studio, creating international contemporary art database, sorting and collecting artists' literature files, etc.; regularly inviting art critics and curators at home and abroad to hold academic reports on contemporary art, and devoting themselves to high-quality exhibitions and art exhibitions Collection of goods.

Shangshang International Art Museum pays attention to the new development trend of Chinese contemporary art, especially the construction of academic and systematic functional mechanism of Chinese contemporary art, in order to promote the sustainable and healthy development of Chinese contemporary art.

Honorary title

At the beginning of 2011, Shanghai International Art Museum won the "2010 Songzhuang town cultural and creative industry outstanding contribution award". In March 2014, curator Li Guangming won the title of "top 10 cultural celebrities of the first Beijing Sub Center".

Design concept

The architectural design of Shangshang International Art Museum is designed by curator Li Guangming himself. It combines the "circle" which represents Chinese humanistic and cultural thought with the "green brick" which is a traditional building material. It constructs the building in a way of large volume, infinite circulation and ubiquitous "circle" to the extreme, reflecting the broadness and inclusiveness of Chinese culture. The large area of lawn and pond outside the museum integrates the museum with nature, reflecting the traditional Chinese philosophy of the unity of man and nature.
