Zhang Taiyan's former residence,

Built in the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China, it is a Chinese style house located in the middle of Cangqian old street, Yuhang, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. It includes the former residence, tourist service center, Sinology Research Center, Sinology lecture hall and temporary exhibition hall.

Zhang Taiyan, a modern Chinese democratic revolutionist, thinker and master of Sinology, was born at the south end of the world-famous Beijing Hangzhou Grand Canal and the Tang River in front of yuhangcang.

The former residence of Zhang Taiyan covers an area of 811 square meters and faces south. It is composed of a sedan hall, a main hall, an inner hall, a study and a refuge lane. It was built in the late Qing Dynasty. Mr. Wang was born and grew up here and spent 22 spring and autumn years which had an important influence on his life. The first three entrances are the reappearance of historical scenes, showing the style of Mr. Taiyan's former residence in his youth; the fourth entrance is the exhibition hall, which shows Mr. Taiyan's magnificent life with a variety of traditional and modern techniques. The plaque of the former residence was inscribed by Mr. Zhao Puchu.

Artistic achievements

Zhang Taiyan's former residence is a well preserved and rare collection of essence of Qing Dynasty wood carving. Whether it's the leaky window of Fuya hall, the "bracket" of the back room, or the wood decoration of the main hall, the carving and inlaying skills are superb, and the carving and painting are superb. By the canal and on the old street, you can see cultural relics and enjoy wood carvings. Mr. Taiyan's former residence is a period of history and a kind of culture.

On May 25, 2006, Zhang Taiyan's former residence was approved by the State Council to be listed in the Sixth Batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
