Bitou Township
Bitou township is located on Taiwan Island, a treasure island of China. It is under the jurisdiction of Changhua County, Taiwan Province. Bitou township is located on the alluvial fan of the chuoshui River (the longest river in Taiwan Province of China). Bitou township is located in the west central part of Taiwan Island.
Origin of township name
Yutou township is located on the alluvial fan of the chuoshui river. The old chuoshui river flows through the boundary of the township, Beidou and Tianwei. Because it is not easy to irrigate the farmland of the township on the alluvial fan, a big village was opened up at the junction of today's Yutou village, Hefeng village, xingruan village and Tianwei township for irrigation. The township is at the head of the big village, so it is called Yutou.
history
According to historical records, in the early Qing Dynasty, the wilderness was everywhere, and the aboriginal Babu sapingpu tribe once lived in their hometown, such as fanzipu. Later, because the Fujian people gradually came to Taiwan to settle down in wasteland reclamation, they gradually formed settlements.
It was not until the Chaochun uprising in 1861 that Chen Nong, a member of xiaopuxin (called Yaba Nong by villagers), responded. At the beginning, Chen Nong was overwhelming and invincible. However, he was defeated in the battle of Jiayi and returned to xiaopuxin. In April 1863, the Qing army attacked Chen Nong's camp, which was called the battle of xiaopuxin. Chen Nong led more than 2000 families to resist the Qing army The villagers were also killed and wounded. The ancient fort of the Qing army, which was left over from that time and was made of rammed earth, still exists today. The battlefield is located in Hexing village. According to the research of historian Professor Hong minlin, before the battle, there were more than 2000 households in xiaopuxin, which were very rich and prosperous. After the defeat of Chennong, the whole village of xiaopuxin was destroyed by fire for several days. As a result, the population was reduced and only 70 or 80 households remained.
present situation
During the Japanese occupation period, Hezhen and Dayu were developed and agricultural development was vigorously promoted. Until now, they have become one of the main agricultural production centers in Zhanghua County, with a total population of about 32000 people in 17 villages.
