Historical evolution
From the beginning of the third century to the end of the sixth century, Buddhism prevailed, and "Buddha wants gold clothes". Therefore, in the area of Yingfang and Huayuan Township, Jiangning District, Nanjing, where Ge Hong, the scientist who founded the production of real gold foil, lived, he became the hometown of gold foil. Nanjing has been the birthplace of gold foil production in China for nearly 2000 years. In the past, in Huayuan Township, almost every family had small workshops, and many people made a living by making foil for generations. In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, it provided gold foil for the court. In the process of making gold foil, the workers processed the 99.96% pure gold through more than 10 processes, such as strip melting, leaf beating, falling and opening, Kang Kang, twisting, fining, issuing and foil cutting, so that the gold bars of different sizes became uniform and thin as cicada wings. A gram of 24K gold can be hammered into half a square meter of gold foil one thousandth of a millimeter thin. The gold foil hammered by special technology is as thin as cicada wings, soft as silk, light as a feather and resplendent as gold. It is used as a decorative treasure for palaces, temples and buildings. It can also be used in many fields such as medicine, food and handicraft processing.
The hometown of China's gold foil is located in Yuanyuan Township, Longtan District. In the past, every family used to make gold foil. In 1955, 64 old gold foil artists jointly established the gold foil brocade line cooperative in the garden. In 1983, when the Yangtze River was flooded, they moved to Dongshan Town (now Dongshan street, Jiangning District), Nanjing. They have developed into the world's largest gold foil production base "Nanjing gold foil group", which consumes more than one ton of gold annually.
Nanjing is the hometown of gold foil. The output of Jinling brand gold foil produced by Nanjing gold foil group accounts for more than 70% of the total output of gold foil in China, and 70% of the products are sold to more than 30 countries and regions such as Japan, the United States, Italy, Spain, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. Gold foil group has been a major tax payer of local enterprises in Jiangning District for many years, and Nanjing gold foil has always been a local business card that Nanjing is proud of, especially after "Nanjing gold foil forging technology" has been successfully applied as one of the first batch of intangible cultural heritage in China.

architectural composition
In order to make people better understand Nanjing gold foil, the largest gold foil production base in China, Nanjing gold foil factory, after years of planning, built the "China gold foil exhibition hall" in 1990, and officially opened to the outside world for visitors at home and abroad. The memorial hall is located under a Yingjie building in the factory area of the gold foil factory. The name of the hall on the gate is inscribed by Du Ping, a former member of the Central Committee of the CPC. When you enter the exhibition hall, you will see a big belly Maitreya Buddha in gold, with a smile on his face and a bare chest. This Maitreya Golden Buddha seems to be made of large pieces of gold. In fact, it is wrapped with gold foil, but there is no trace left at the junction, showing the extremely exquisite gilding process. Around the Golden Buddha, there is a gold screen carved with dragons, phoenixes, flowers and birds. On both sides of the pilaster, there are gold painting colors, resplendent and gorgeous.
The rich exhibits in the four wall cabinets of the exhibition hall fully demonstrate the various uses of Nanjing gold foil. Here are the brocade and dragon robes provided by Nanjing brocade craft fabric research institute. Yunjin is the main fabric of ancient court clothing. It is named for its brilliant design and color like clouds in the sky. The brocade thread made of Nanjing gold foil is the main raw material for weaving Yunjin.
In another display cabinet, there is the calligraphy and painting ink provided by Shanghai ink factory. The factory has always used Nanjing gold foil formula to make ink, which makes the ink have purple jade luster, lasting for a long time, adding pen without glue, entering paper without dizziness, rich fragrance and corrosion resistance. It has won many awards at home and abroad, playing an important role in cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries. In the adjacent display cabinet, there are various folding fans and hanging fans with Nanjing gold foil provided by Suzhou fan factory. These high-grade fans are more elegant and precious after being pasted with gold and hand-painted color paintings, so they are well-known at home and abroad and sell well in domestic and international markets. The famous Chinese patent medicines such as "Angong Niuhuang Pill" and "Dahuoluo pill" produced by Beijing Tongrentang drugstore and Tianjin Darentang pharmaceutical factory with a history of more than 300 years are also on display here. The formula and gold coating of these pills contain the ingredients of Nanjing gold foil. Modern medicine has proved that gold foil does contain some trace elements needed by human body. It has the functions of tranquilizing, resolving phlegm and tranquilizing.
Gold foil technology
People's praise of gold often reflects the special technology of gold, such as "golden branches and leaves", "resplendent", which describes an important variety of gold technology - gold foil. Gold foil is a thin piece of hammered gold. Due to the good ductility and plasticity of gold, one or two (31.25g) pure gold can be hammered into gold foil with a thickness of 1 / 10000 mm and an area of 16.2 square meters. That is, a gram of gold can be made into gold foil of about 0.5 square meters, with a thickness of 0.12um. The standard specification of gold foil is 9.33 * 9.33cm, and other commonly used specifications are 8 * 8cm, 10.9 * 10.9cm, 4.5 * 1.5cm and 2.75 * 2.75cm. Gold is stable, permanent, anti-oxidation, anti moisture, anti-corrosion, anti mildew, anti insect bite, anti radiation. Gold foil made of gold has a wide range of uses. The ancient method of gold foil is to purify gold, and then hammer it into 2.5 square centimeters of gold leaf, then put it in the black gold paper made by kerosene fumigation, and then hammer it by hand for 6-8 hours to make the gold leaf into foil, which is about 40 times the area of gold leaf, and then cut it into square.
Gold foil is a traditional handicraft of the Chinese nation. It originated in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, matured in the Southern Dynasties, and was popular in song, Qi, Liang and Chen dynasties. Today, Longtan area in Nanjing is the birthplace of gold foil, which has a history of nearly 1700 years. The inscription of Cixi mausoleum in Dongling, Beijing, is a typical gold foil product. The traditional process of making gold foil is based on the gold bar with 99.99% gold content as the main raw material. After more than ten special processes, such as polyester, hammering and foil cutting, it presents golden color, bright and soft, light as a feather, thin as cicada wings, and less than 0.12 μ m in thickness.
Gold foil is different from "red gold" and "gold". Since the late Qing Dynasty, it has been called "Ku gold foil", "Su Da Chi" and "Tian Chi Jin". The color of "Ku gold foil" is red, the fineness of gold is the best, and Zhang Zi is the biggest, about three inches square. "Su Da Chi" color
