Waerzhai Temple
One of the three major temples of Gelug Sect of Tibetan Buddhism in Muli, Sichuan Province, is located on the platform of Duji mountain on the East Bank of Muli River in Shawan Township, Sichuan Province. Built in 1584, it was presided over by songzanjiacuo, the first living Buddha of muligelu sect. When it was first built, it was small in scale, with only one Sakyamuni hall. But the incense is very strong, and the Buddhism is very prosperous. After the expansion of Ming and Qing Dynasties, a new hall with four floors and one floor was built opposite the old hall. The Sutra hall at the bottom of the new hall can hold 500 monks sitting and chanting sutras. In the south-west of the temple, there are 250 monks' houses. In the north of the temple, there is a self-contained Sizhang quadrangle, surrounded by tall Tibetan buildings with four floors and one floor. The scale of the temple is spectacular. At its peak, there were more than 300 monks living in the temple. By 1950, there were still 124. There are 6 subordinate temples, namely dingyanggun (Sakya sect Temple of Tibetan Buddhism), gagougun, kuronggun, yageng gun (balgon), waduogun (jointly managed with Kangwu Temple), Duji Erchi, etc.
