Luota Geopark is located in Longshan, Hunan Province, with a total area of 142.66 square kilometers and rich geological relics. It has 8 types of karst landforms, 11 types of karst morphological characteristics, 340 large and small karst caves and 62 square kilometers of stone forest. It is a natural karst Geopark with great tourism and scientific research value. As early as the 1970s, the Ministry of geology of the people's Republic of China designated it as the research base of Institute of karst geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences and the practice base of Graduate School of China University of Geosciences.

Luota Geopark, with a total area of 142.66 square kilometers, is a karst mountainous area inhabited by Tujia and Miao ethnic groups. It is 46 kilometers away from Longshan County, and has 14 scenic spots in the overall planning. There are 8 types of karst landforms, 340 large and small karst caves and 106 karst depression funnels. Geopark is a typical representative of exposed karst geology in South China. It is a masterpiece of nature. It is a geological relic left over by hundreds of millions of years of geological movement. It is a rare geological wonder of karst landform in China. The park is known as the "Encyclopedia" of karst geology, and is the scientific research base of Institute of karst geology, Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences.

As a natural karst Geopark, it is of great value for sightseeing, exploration and leisure. It has not only unique climate resources, but also beautiful natural landscape. At present, four scenic spots have been preliminarily developed, including Nanzhu, Longwan, badongxianshan and jiubaogou. The scenic spot integrates karst cave, beautiful water, strange stone and human culture into one, forming a beautiful scene of various forms, majestic momentum and spectacular. It is a typical karst ecosystem and the most abundant three-dimensional panorama, which is unforgettable.

Comparable to Yunnan Stone Forest

Stone pillars and stone forests formed by karst landforms can be found everywhere in Luota. Luota is a complete synclinal karst tectonic unit, which develops a rare karst tectonic landscape in China. It can be said to be a great collection of karst landscape. There are many kinds of karst structures, such as tableland, peak cluster, isolated peak, karst hill, stone forest, Shiya, depression, funnel, karst cave, underground river, canyon, cliff, waterfall, etc., with complete formation and development stages. It is a typical representative of exposed karst in southern China, It is a karst research base of China Institute of geology. It was approved as a provincial Geopark by Hunan Provincial Department of land and resources on December 28, 2002.

On the way to Luota, you can see mountains and valleys, thousands of stones like a forest, big blue gray stones competing for height, beauty and strangeness, stretching vertically and horizontally, overlapping and crisscrossing, with unique shapes. Tower shaped, lotus shaped, arhat shaped, cone-shaped, knife shaped, arrow cluster shaped, curtain shaped and so on stand together, like a magic labyrinth, forming the beautiful landscape of Luota Geopark. Some of them are exquisite, like female embroiderers; some of them are rugged and weird, like ghost axe chisels; some of them are towering and steep, like ink and blue; some of them are rugged, like vines, more like tall and straight ancient trees. Tall, short, big, thin. Thick, thin, wrinkled, slippery, each with its own characteristics, such as people's faces with each other but without a similar, in the trees and red flowers between the beautiful scenery. Luota stone forest covers the whole mountain boundary. The more concentrated stone forest are Nanzhu cheshuiping stone forest, SOLUO zhaojiawan stone forest, baxiandong stone forest and Yinhe tower stone forest along the highway. The stone forest area of cheshuiping alone is more than 1000 mu. No matter its scale, area, shape and combination, Luota stone forest is comparable to Yunnan stone forest.
