Historical evolution
At the beginning of the school
In 1939, in order to promote the industrial production in the Shaanxi Gansu Ningxia border region and ensure the victory of the Anti Japanese War, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to establish the Research Institute of natural sciences in Yan'an. It was changed into the Yan'an Academy of natural sciences in the spring of 1940 and merged into Yan'an University in 1943.
After the victory of the Anti Japanese War, Yan'an Academy of natural sciences moved to northeast and North China, and merged with Shanxi Chahar Hebei border industrial vocational school in Zhangjiakou. In January 1946, it established Shanxi Chahar Hebei border industrial vocational school.
In April 1946, according to the needs of the development of the situation, the Institute of technology of Northern University was established in the Shanxi Hebei Shandong border region. In November, Shanxi Chahar Hebei border industrial school and Railway College merged to establish Shanxi Chahar Hebei Industrial Transportation College, which was separated in 1947 and renamed as Shanxi Chahar Hebei border industrial school, located in Jingxing, Hebei Province.
The period of the College of technology of North China University
In October 1948, the Shanxi Chahar Hebei border industrial school merged with the Institute of technology of North China University to establish the Institute of technology of North China University as an independent college of North China University.
In August 1949, the Institute of technology of North China University moved to Beijing and was under the leadership of the Ministry of heavy industry of the Central People's government. In order to meet the urgent need of heavy industry at that time, the school added physical prospecting class and Russian specialized course on the basis of the original mechanical and electrical class, metallurgical class, preparatory class, higher vocational department and other classes.
In September 1950, the Ministry of education of the people's Government of North China decided to merge the headquarters and the three departments of mathematics, physics and chemistry of Sino French university into the Institute of technology of North China University.
Period of Beijing Institute of Technology
On November 18, 1951, the Ministry of education of the Central People's government changed the name of the Institute of technology of North China University to Beijing Institute of technology, and the new name was opened on January 1, 1952.
In August 1952, Beijing Institute of iron and steel (now Beijing University of science and Technology) was established by the metallurgy department, mining department and iron and steel machinery specialty of Beijing Institute of technology together with other related departments of other universities. In October, 43 teachers and students majoring in mining and metallurgy of Beijing Institute of technology were transferred to Central South University of mining and Metallurgy (now Central South University). In November, the Department of Aeronautical Engineering of Beijing Institute of technology and the aeronautical departments of other universities jointly established Beijing Institute of Aeronautics.
In 1953, the school began postgraduate education.
In 1959, it became one of the first batch of 16 national key universities promulgated by the state.
In July 1961, Beijing Institute of technology artillery, automatic weapons, shells and other professional reorganization for Taiyuan Institute of machinery (now North University).
In 1969, the school was under the leadership of the fifth Ministry of machinery industry (also known as the Ministry of ordnance industry of the people's Republic of China).
In 1981, it was approved by the State Council as one of the first batch of units with doctor's and master's degree authorization in China.
In 1983, appointed by former Defense Minister General Zhang Aiping, it became one of China's 14 famous universities supported by UNESCO loan.
In 1984, it was approved by the State Council as one of the first batch of 22 universities to set up graduate schools.
Beijing University of Technology
On April 2, 1988, in order to adapt to the needs of the University's transformation from a single engineering college to a comprehensive university focusing on engineering and combining science, engineering, management and arts, Beijing Institute of technology was renamed as Beijing University of technology.
In 1991, the school was under the leadership of China National Ordnance Industry Corporation.
In 1992, designated by the central government, the University became one of the first 14 vice ministerial universities established by the state. In the same year, the University established the science and Technology Park of Beijing University of Technology (awarded by the National University Science and Technology Park in 2003).
In 1995, the University was one of the first batch to enter the ranks of the national "211 Project" construction universities.
In 1999, the University was under the management of the Commission of science, technology and industry for national defense. In the same year, the University passed the evaluation of excellent universities in undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of education.
In 2000, it was approved by the state as a University jointly built by the former Commission of science, technology and industry for national defense, the Ministry of education and the Beijing Municipal People's government, and entered the ranks of "985 Project" universities.
In December 2001, it was selected as one of the first batch of universities of the Ministry of education and the State Planning Commission to set up demonstration software colleges.
In 2007, it was selected as one of the first batch of national college students' Innovative Experimental Program projects.
In 2008, it was selected into the subject innovation and talent introduction plan of colleges and universities (national "111 plan"). In the same year, the school was under the management of the Ministry of industry and information technology.
In 2010, it was selected into the first batch of "excellent engineer education and training plan" universities of the Ministry of education.
In 2011, it was rated as "National Graduate Employment typical experience university" by the Ministry of education.
In 2012, the University was selected into the first batch of national college students' innovation and entrepreneurship training program.
In 2014, it was selected into the innovation ability improvement plan of colleges and universities (national "2011 plan").
In December 2016, it was selected as one of the first batch of innovation and entrepreneurship education reform demonstration universities in Beijing.
In May 2017, the University joined the engineering education and Research Alliance of Chinese and British universities. In June, the University Alliance of the Ministry of industry and information technology was established with the University as one of its members. In July, it was rated as "national innovation and entrepreneurship typical experience university" by the Ministry of education. In September, it was selected as one of the first batch of "double first-class" world-class universities (Class A).
In March 2018, the school was selected into the first batch of "national new engineering research and practice projects" by the Ministry of education. In July, it was recognized by the Ministry of education as "the second batch of national model universities for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform".
In February 2019, Beijing University of technology was recognized by the Ministry of education as one of the first batch of Universities' scientific and technological achievements transformation and technology transfer bases. In May, with the approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, the University was added as an independent examination unit of degree authorization. In September, he became a founding member and Council member of China Artificial Intelligence Education Association. In October, Beijing University of technology and Tangshan Municipal People's government held the signing ceremony of cooperation in running schools and the unveiling ceremony of Tangshan Research Institute of Beijing University of technology. In November, the heritage base of traditional handicrafts of Beijing University of technology was selected into the list of excellent Chinese traditional culture heritage bases of colleges and universities in China in 2019.
In January 2020, the university will be selected as the pilot of enrollment reform of basic subjects ("strong foundation plan").
