Nengtan suspension bridge
Nengtan suspension bridge is located in Luxi County, 319 National Highway of Sichuan Hunan highway, crossing nengtan river. The river valleys on both sides are steep and the water depth is more than 20 meters.
The bridge was designed by Zhou Lifu, an engineer, and constructed by Ouyang Yu. It was built in March 1937 and opened to traffic in May 1938, consuming 69 000 yuan. The suspension bridge has a span of 80 meters, a height of 20 meters, a deck width of 4.5 meters and a load standard of 10 tons. The abutment is made of stone, and the tower is of hollow cylindrical cast steel structure, 9 meters high. The suspension cable is chain type, which is composed of 65 cast steel eye rods. The total length of the catenary is 82.08m, and the horizontal spacing is 5m. The anchor is made of channel steel and embedded in the rock wall anchor holes on both sides with concrete. There are 32 suspenders on each side, and 4 round steel bars on each side of the bridge deck are used as wind cables to tighten the bridge deck to prevent horizontal swing. In 1970, the nengtan bridge was completed, and the suspension bridge ceased to be used as a cultural heritage.
In late November 1949, the second field army led by Liu Bocheng and Deng Xiaoping marched into the southwest and passed by. There is still a martyr's Mausoleum at the head of the bridge. When he stood at the head of the bridge to guard the drawbridge, he was unfortunately hit by the enemy. Now the drawbridge and the martyr are recorded in history and lie there silently. As a key cultural relic protection unit of the province, the suspension bridge needs to be painted and maintained every year, so it can still shine.
The bridge is the first modern steel chain suspension bridge built on the highway in China.
