Hongcheng Thanksgiving Temple

Yongdeng County Hongcheng Thanksgiving temple, commonly known as the great Buddhist temple. It is a Tibetan Buddhist temple with Chinese style architecture and a provincial cultural relic protection unit. The temple was built by Lu Lin, the fifth chieftain of Lu Dynasty. It started in 1492 and was completed in 1494, which lasted for three years.

brief introduction

The temple is in the southwest corner of Hongcheng Town, 80 Li south of Yongdeng County. The next year, Emperor Hongzhi named it "Thanksgiving Temple". When the cultural relics were surveyed in 1963, the temple was very desolate. Religious activities had already stopped. A Lama living in the temple had already worked in the local production team. At that time, the market of Hongcheng was rather depressed, and it had lost the prosperity of Shangfu in those years, and there were no restaurants and hotels.

Inside the temple

The main building in the temple is the Mahatma Hall (Buddha Hall). Inside the hall is the structure of the front worship hall and the back corridor. The statue is still the original work of the temple built in the early Ming Dynasty, which is well preserved. On the front of the hall are the second disciples of the third Buddha, with two bodies and eleven sides of Guanyin, eight Bodhisattvas and two Dharma protectors on both sides. Outside the hall of worship is an ambulatory, which is a common system of temples. What excites us is that there are a large number of small shadow sculptures with different expressions, which are of great archaeological and ornamental value. According to statistics, the main wall and the left and right walls (the north wall and the East and west wall) are divided into upper and lower layers respectively. Seventy eight high floating statues are shaped, each about 50 cm in height. Most of them are Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Secondly, there are Buddha, heavenly king, Mingwang, Dharma protector, Vajra, daheitian, some of the top ten disciples and some of the sixteen Arhats. What is more noteworthy is that there are more than 20 Indian Buddhist masters and figures in Buddhist stories, as well as great achievements and gurus of Tibetan Buddhism. They are the great monks of high virtue who have access to Buddhism, or the founders of a certain sect. It is very important to give them proper positions here for the study of Buddhist figures. The figures are vivid and show different life experiences and temperament.
