The main ethnic groups are Miao, Dong, Zhuang, Yao and Shui.

Evolution of organizational system
In Yuan Dynasty, there were Fulu yongcong, Xishan Dadong, etc., belonging to the military and civilian pacification Department of Sizhou.
In the third year of Hongwu (1370) of Ming Dynasty, Fulu yongcong was set up, which belongs to the xuanweisi of Sizhou; in the fifth year of Yongle (1407), xishanyangdong was set up, which belongs to the xuanweisi of Sizhou; in the sixth year (1408), two chief officials were added; in the twelfth year (1414), Fulu yongcong and xishanyangdong were attached to Liping; in the sixth year of Zhengtong (1441), Fulu yongcong and xishanyangdong Manyi were changed to yongcong County, Liping Prefecture.
In the 22nd year of Kangxi (1693) of the Qing Dynasty, the magistrate of Xishan Yangdong was abolished; in the 10th year of Yongzheng (1732), a member of yongcong county was set up, who was stationed in Bingmei, and then transferred to Liping Prefecture, where Tanxi was stationed in Xiajiang; in the 36th year of Qianlong (1771), the general sentence of Guiyang Prefecture was replaced by the general sentence of Liping Prefecture, where Xiajiang hall was set up. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, Congjiang County was divided into yongcong County, xiajiangting County, Kaitai county and Tanxi county.
In the second year of the Republic of China (1913), Xiajiang hall was changed to Xiajiang County, and yongcong County belonged to eastern Guizhou; Kaitai county and Tanxi county were merged into Liping County, and Congjiang County was also divided into yongcong County, Xiajiang county and Liping County. In 1914, Bingmei county was set up as Bingmei sub County, belonging to Congjiang County; in 1935, Xiajiang county was set up as the tenth administrative supervision district; in the 25th year, it was changed into the eighth administrative supervision district; in the same year, Bingmei sub county was withdrawn and merged into yongcong County; after 1937, yongcong and Xiajiang counties were set up as the second administrative supervision district; in 1941, yongcong county was withdrawn and the northeast part of Li county Even, the southwest into the river. Yongcong county and Xiajiang county are named Congjiang County (named after yongcong county and Xiajiang county respectively), and Congjiang County is named after Congjiang County.
On December 5, 1950, Congjiang was liberated. On December 26, the people's Government of Congjiang County was established and stationed in Bingmei town. It belongs to Dushan district.
In December 1952, Dushan district was renamed Duyun District, and Congjiang County was Duyun district.
On April 28, 1956, Congjiang County was under the jurisdiction of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture.
On December 29, 1958, Congjiang County was merged into Rongjiang county.
Congjiang County was restored on August 18, 1961.

On January 14, 2016, Guizhou Provincial People's Government (QFH [2016] No. 23) approved the adjustment of administrative divisions of some towns and townships in Congjiang County, including the removal of Yongli Township into Bingmei Town, the removal of Guanghui Township and Jiajiu township to merge and set up Jiajiu Town, and the removal of Douli Township, Qingyun Township and donglang township to set up towns respectively;
On August 8, 2019, Guizhou Provincial People's Government approved the establishment of Bingmei street in Congjiang County. Congjiang County is located in the southeast of Qiandongnan Miao and Dong Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province. It is located at 108 ° 05 ′ - 109 ° 12 ′ E and 25 ° 16 ′ - 26 ° 05 ′ n. It is adjacent to Rongjiang County in the north, Libo County in Qiannan Prefecture and Huanjiang County in Guangxi in the west, Rongshui County in Guangxi in the south, Liping County and Sanjiang County in Guangxi in the East. Congjiang County is located in the transition zone from Yunnan Guizhou Plateau to hilly and mountainous areas of Guangxi. There are 1615 peaks, including 270 peaks above 1200 meters above sea level. The highest peak is yuantoujie peak of 90000 mountain, with an altitude of 1670 meters. The lowest peak is at the exit of Duliu River, with an altitude of 145 meters and a relative altitude difference of 1535 meters. The topography of Congjiang County takes Duliu River as the horizontal axis, and the two wings rise gradually. The gradual change of the mountains on the two wings of Duliu River constitutes the terrain framework of Congjiang County. The mountain area is 2963 square kilometers, accounting for 91.34% of the total area, the dam area is 64 square kilometers, accounting for 2%, and the river beach area is about 4%.
