He Tengjiao's tomb
He Tengjiao's tomb, facing the Fulu River, is close to the foot of the city wall with its back on the sidewalk. The tomb is located in the East, West and slightly north. Around with a square stone masonry, about 1.2 meters high, about 5 meters in diameter. Before liberation, there was a residence for the tomb keeper behind the tomb and a memorial temple in front of the tomb. Facing the Fulu River, there is a stone railing about 80 meters long and an attic. The tomb was surrounded by stone walls. During the 200 years from the 15th year of Kangxi (1676) to the 7th year of Guangxu (1881), he Tengjiao's tomb underwent many repairs, and its mound, hall and jingshe were well preserved. In the 1950s, the original buildings were gradually demolished, but the tomb mounds still exist. Tombs were destroyed in the cultural revolution. In 1980, the Department of cultural relics excavated tombstones, epitaphs, and tables.
On the cliff of Xifo in he Tengjiao cemetery, there is still a cliff with "heroic spirit" carved in 1927. In view of the important historical value of he Tengjiao's tomb, it was listed as one of the first provincial cultural relics protection units in 1982.
Life of he Tengjiao
He Tengjiao (1592-1649), with the word Yuncong, was born in Liping. In the first year of Qi (1621), he was appointed as an official of Yuci in Shanxi Province. Chongzhen nine years (1636) transferred to Nanyang County, Henan Province. In 1638, he was promoted to Daxing order in Kyoto, and was promoted to head of the Ministry of military affairs and councilor Wai Lang, and later served as a military officer of huaixu. In 1642, he served as a military officer in Yunyang, Hubei Province. During the Southern Ming Dynasty, he insisted on the struggle against the Qing Dynasty. First, he was granted the title of minister of the Ministry of war by King Fu, governor of the military affairs of Huguang, Sichuan and other provinces. Later, he was worshipped as the Bachelor of Dongge and Minister of the Ministry of war by the king of Tang, and was granted the title of Uncle Xing. When the king of Tang was captured, King Jili of GUI paid homage to he Tengjiao as the great Bachelor of wuyingdian, and he was appointed the title of crown prince and crown prince. He joined with Li Zicheng's old army to fight against the Qing Dynasty and once recovered most of Hunan. Later, he was captured because the Qing army was led into Xiangtan by the Qing ministry. He refused to fall, fasted for 7 days and hanged himself. Yongli emperor was awarded as the king of Hunan, posthumous Wenlie.
Related Legends
Nowadays, there are many legends about he Tengjiao in Liping. Some legends can be found in the literature. As for the "Shenyu well" on the right side of He Gong temple, the annals of Liping mansion says: he Tengjiao was born, a fish swam out of the hole at the bottom of the well, and the villagers fished it home and fried it in oil, half of it burnt yellow and did not die. Just about to turn over, the fish rolled in the pot, and the well water surged into waves. The villagers were terrified and put the fish back into the well. The well water immediately calmed down, and the fish still paddled in the water for food. After the death of Tengjiao, Shenyu disappeared, but the well remained. According to historical records, he Tengjiao was buried by a monk after his death, but it was only used as a mark instead of a grave. In 1661, the monk informed Tengjiao's nephew and grandson about the incident and moved it to tangxingwan, Xiangtan. In 1675, in order to honor he Tengjiao's loyalty to the emperor, he was ordered to move his remains back to his hometown and bury them in Xifo cliff in the west of the city.
