architectural composition
The Sutra building consists of three parts: the main building, the monk's room and the stele gallery. Covering an area of more than 3000 square meters, the main building is a palace style building, and it looks like a temple building. The Sutra collection building, stele corridor and inscription are important memorial buildings of Zhongshan Mausoleum. In the middle of the eaves on the third floor, there is a straight forehead, which is inscribed with the three characters "cangjing Lou" and the gold characters on the black background. It is inscribed by the famous contemporary calligrapher Wu Zhongqi. On May 7, 1987, with the approval of Nanjing Municipal People's government, the Sutra library was built as Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall. Qu Wu, honorary chairman of the Central Committee of the democratic revolution, inscribed six gold-plated horizontal plaques in regular script of "Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall", which were hung above the main door of the main building.
Main buildings
main building
The main building is a reinforced concrete structure with double eaves and hilltop style palace building. The roof is covered with green glazed tiles, and the back and eaves are covered with yellow glazed tiles. There is a red copper gilded Falun canopy in the center of the main ridge. The beams, columns, forehead and Fang are decorated with colored paintings. The whole building is decorated with carved beams and painted buildings, resplendent and magnificent. There are three floors in total, the first floor is the lecture hall, and there is a sandwich floor listening seat; the second floor is the Sutra collection, reading and research room; the third floor is the Sutra collection room, with a total area of 1600 square meters. On the central hall of the first floor, there is a torch shaped chandelier. On the top of the hall is decorated with a gilded octagonal lotus caisson, which looks luxurious and magnificent.
In the back of the building, there is an ambulatory building, 125 meters long. The wall is inlaid with inscriptions on the full text of the theory of "three principles of the people" donated by general Feng Yuxiang. There are 138 pieces of six lectures of the Communist Youth League, totaling more than 155000 words. Each lecture was written by the calligraphers at that time, such as Zhang Naigong, Chen Tianxi, Lian Shenghai, Li Qichen, ye gongchuo, Zheng Hongnian, Chen Zhongjing, Cai Yun, Hu Di, Peng Jiushi, Wang Yihan, Li Xuanti, Wang Xian and Deng caiweng. It is a group of precious cultural relics with excellent calligraphy and carving.
Monk's room
There are five monk rooms, which are built on the central axis. Behind the monk room, there are four East and West Wing rooms. The East and West stele corridors are 125 meters long, symmetrical, around the main building and monk room. There are 25 corridors in the East and 25 in the West. On the wall of the corridor are 138 pieces of blue stone tablets donated by patriotic general Feng Yuxiang, which are 1.9 meters high and 0.9 meters wide. The inscriptions are the full text of the three principles of the people by Dr. Sun Yat Sen, with a total of more than 155000 words, all written by the famous veterans of the Kuomintang. It took one and a half years for Tang Zhongfang, a stone Carver in Wu County, Suzhou, to lead his disciples. Because of the different writers, the inscriptions have different styles. 138 inscriptions are an important part of modern cultural relics.
In 1937, after the Japanese invaders occupied Nanjing, the main building, monk's house and stele corridor were burned. The main building was made of reinforced concrete, but it survived. Because the stele corridor was made of brick, tile and wood, it was reduced to ashes at that time, leaving only the stele corridor Foundation and inscriptions. During the cultural revolution, stele corridors and inscriptions, as well as Sutra collection buildings, were also severely damaged. Nine surviving galleries were demolished and 138 inscriptions were not spared. All the inscriptions were "crossed" by hammers. When the inscriptions were destroyed, all the people who saw them lamented. It is an arduous task to reproduce this group of complex and precious historical and cultural heritage in its original form. After several studies by the cultural relics department, experts and scholars, and trial repairs by four units, the method, style and practice of selecting the character knife were finally determined, striving to be consistent with the original components. On the premise of no renewal and no loss of the original appearance, the repair scheme that can be bonded and repaired was formulated, and the original appearance was basically restored.
square
In the square in front of the Sutra library stands a bronze statue of Dr. Sun Yat Sen, which was presented by his Japanese friend, Mr. Meiwu Zhuangji. As early as January 1895, Sun Yat Sen went to Hong Kong from Honolulu, USA, to organize the headquarters of Xingzhong society. At that time, he met with the owner of "Meiwu photo studio" in Hong Kong, Meiwu Zhuangji. He had received many donations from Meiwu. Soon after Yuan Shikai became emperor, Sun Yat Sen was forced to go to Japan and live in Meiwu Zhuangji's house. On October 25, 1915, the wedding ceremony between Sun Yat Sen and Song Qingling was also held at Meiwu's home.
