Dabajianshan

One of the most famous mountains in Taiwan. Located at the junction of Hsinchu County and Miaoli County, the elevation is 3492 meters (11457 feet). Because of the peculiar shape of the mountain, it is similar to the inverted wine barrel, commonly known as wine barrel mountain or wine pot mountain. Its peak is surrounded by steep cliffs. It is about 150 meters (492 feet) high from the bottom of the cliff. It looks like a rock fortress. The situation is very dangerous, so it has the reputation of a century peak. It used to be an excellent place for rock climbing. The back cliff is equipped with artificial iron ladders and ropes to facilitate climbing. Now it is one of the mountain resorts in the whole province. Xiaobajian mountain is located about 700 meters (2297 feet) to the southwest of the mountain, which is called as a marvel by its beautiful shape, while Dabajian mountain and xiaobajian mountain complement each other by their majestic shape. Dabajian mountain is located in Taiwan's snow mountain range, at the north end of the Shengling line. Its mountains are suddenly pulled up, and dangerous peaks stand alone. Because Dabajian mountain is the birthplace of the ancestors of the Taiya and saixia people, climbing was forbidden until 1927, when the Japanese mountaineers finished their first climbing. Located in the southern end of Jianshi township at the junction of Miaoli, Taichung and Hsinchu, it is among the central mountains, with an altitude of 3573 meters. It has many primeval forests and unique mountain shape. Its spire falls at an angle of about 45 degrees on all sides for several hundred meters, then suddenly turns into a cliff and cliffs, and vertically plunges into the bottom of the deep valley. At the top of Dabajian mountain, there is a 150 meter high strange rock protrusion. The top is flat and round, slightly narrow on the top and gradually wide on the bottom. It looks like an inverted wine bucket. Therefore, this mountain is also called "wine bucket mountain". Dabajian mountain is a "hot spot" of mountaineering in Taiwan.

There is a small bajian mountain about 700 meters away from the southwest of Dabajian mountain. The shape of the mountain is very similar, but the top of the mountain is unique. There are straight cliffs on all sides, which are seriously weathered and exfoliated, forming four layers of terraces. The more upward, the sharper. The top is like a sharpened pencil. On the whole, it looks like a Thai Buddhist temple on the top of a mountain.

It is said that the ancestors of all ethnic groups of Gaoshan Nationality were born in Dabajian mountain, so today's Taiya people still respect Dabajian mountain as the "ancestral mountain". Every year, there is a custom of sacrificial worship, offering thatch and wild flowers, and praying at the mountain.
