Wanghai peak

It is the East platform of Wutai Mountain, 10 kilometers east of Taihuai Town, with an altitude of 2795 meters and an area of more than 100 mu. Looking at the mountain from afar, it looks like a standing elephant. Looking around from the top, it looks like a giant tortoise shell. The ancients said, "on the top of the East platform, you can see the sea.". Climbing to Dongtai to see the sunrise is a major tourist attraction of Mount Wutai. Among the sunrise, the most spectacular is the "sea of clouds Sunrise". When the weather is fine in summer, when dawn comes on it, the red sun at the end of the sea of clouds can be seen. Zhao Puchu, the president and poet of the Chinese Buddhist Association, once chanted on the spot when he came to Dongtai in 1981: "Dongtai top is full of vigor and vitality. It's full of furs in midsummer, and the sky is wearing Xiayi to welcome the sunrise

On the top of the platform is the Lizi tower built in Xuanhe period of the Northern Song Dynasty. There is a grotto on the Bank of Dongtai, named Luoyan grotto. The atmosphere in the grotto is awe inspiring, and there is ice in midsummer. According to legend, there was a strange monk who never returned to Luoyan grottoes and left Lizi outside. Later generations built pagodas to collect it. The slope in the north of Taihuai is called jujube forest slope. It is said that during the Yongan period of the Northern Wei Dynasty, there was a man named Yanqing who came here to hunt and chase deer. The servant of the entourage got an elder's advice and found a piece of jujube forest. After eating for a while, he filled his pocket with jujubes and returned to Yanqing. Yanqing is not surprised, how can there be jujube forest on such a cold mountain? After tracking it, the jujube forest disappeared. So this slope is called chengzaolin slope.

Historical facts of Dongtai

During the reign of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty, a temple was built on the top of the platform. Wanghai temple was rebuilt in the Yuan Dynasty and rebuilt in the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty. It was built for Congming Manjusri.

At the top of the mountain, there is a tower to watch the sea. Although Wanghai tower does not exist, there is still a sea of clouds to be expected. On a sunny night in midsummer, you can get up at the sound of chickens, wear leather clothes, take a bus from Taihuai Town, circle up the road, and then you can get on the summit of Wanghai peak and watch the sunrise in half an hour.

Experience Dongtai

Zhang Shangying, Prime Minister of the Song Dynasty, once wrote a poem about Dongtai: "when you travel far away, you will feel that the sky is low and the universe is wide. The Northeast has a clear view of the sea, and the southwest is close to Chang'an. " Nowadays, it is a great interest for people to visit Mt. Wutai by climbing Dongtai to see the sea of clouds.
