Jinggebai tower
Jinggebai tower is located in Jingge Park, Gengma Dai and Wa Autonomous County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province. The white pagoda was first built in 1778 by Han Chaoyuan, the 14th chieftain of Gengma, to commemorate the friendly neighbors between China and Myanmar, and designated the day of meeting "Ding" or "Ren" after the water splashing festival as the day of "catching up with the White Pagoda". The main tower is 30 meters high, symbolizing the body of Buddha.
Jinggota is divided into 13 blocks. The surrounding 12 pagodas symbolize the 12 disciples. The main and auxiliary towers are made of brick and stone. The pointed caps on the top of the towers are made of alloy and coated with gold foil.
The upper part of jinggebai pagoda was damaged by Gengma earthquake in 1988. Now the pagoda was rebuilt after the earthquake in 1991. The main tower is 30 meters high, symbolizing the body of Buddha. It is said that the Buddha's nirvana was transformed into 13 "relic", so Jingge pagoda is divided into 13 big and small. The surrounding 12 pagodas symbolize the 12 disciples. The main and auxiliary towers are made of brick and stone. The pointed caps on the top of the towers are made of alloy and coated with gold foil. The two unicorns in the south of the pagoda are the guard and mount of the Buddha. Around the main tower, there are 12 Buddha statues, including Tathagata, Guanyin, Maitreya and nine Vajrayana Arhats. They are kind-hearted, full faced, happy, angry or thoughtful. During the period of catching up with the White Pagoda, people gathered at the bottom of the pagoda, and believers burned incense in front of the pagoda. The young people take the village as a unit, beating drums and dancing.
