Wuma street is the most famous commercial street in Wenzhou. It was called Wuma square in ancient times. It is one of the old streets in Wenzhou. Jiefang street is connected with Gongyuan road in the East and Chan street and Fuqian street in the West. The street is four hundred meters long and twelve meters wide. It is said that it began in the Eastern Jin Dynasty. In Tang and Song Dynasties, it remained unchanged. In the Qing Dynasty, it was renamed Wuma street, with 14 alleys on both sides. It was renamed Zhongshan Road in 1934. After 1949, the name of Wuma street was restored. It was changed to asphalt pavement in 1974. In April 1984, it was designated as Wenzhou's landmark shopping pedestrian street.
Wuma Street
Wuma street is located in the northeast of Sixiang bridge, Qinhuai District, Nanjing city. It starts from yingguijing, Taiping South Road in the South and ends at Baixia road in the north.
It is said that this street was wide in ancient times and could accommodate five horses in parallel, so it was named after "five horses". It is also said that in ancient times, there was a rich family near the Sixiang bridge. There was a well in the family. The well water was refreshing and sweet. Five noble people were invited to taste it. Five people rode in parallel. Later, it became a street and got its name with the word "five horses".
