The old Guangwu ancient city is one of the most complete existing ancient cities in Shanxi Province. It is an important pass under Yanmen pass, 40 kilometers south of Shanyin County, on the south side of guangwuhan tombs.
Old Guangwu ancient city
The old Guangwu city is located in jiuguangwu village, Zhangjiazhuang Township, 40 km south of Shanyin County, Shuozhou City, Shanxi Province. The root of the wall is made of stone and the top is made of brick. The bottom is 5 Zhang wide and the height is 3 Zhang and 8 feet. The whole ancient city is divided into East, West and South gates. The layout of the streets in the ancient city basically retains the original system. It is an important material material for the study of Liao, Jin and Ming Dynasty cities. The old Guangwu city is also the most complete ancient city of Liao Dynasty in China. It used to be the front position of Liao and Song Dynasties and preserved a lot of cultural information of ancient battlefield. In June 2006, the State Council announced it as the Sixth Batch of "national key cultural relics protection units".
Architectural pattern
It is located at the pass, facing the inner Great Wall in the south, the new Guangwu city in the East, the Wangu city of Hanyin in the north, and the Yanmenguan Guancheng site of Liao Dynasty in the West. Construction background
The exact building age of the ancient city wall is not recorded in historical records. According to the relevant literature and the existing buildings, it was built in the Liao Dynasty. At that time, it was rammed to build the city wall. In 1374 of the seventh year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty, it was packed with bricks. It was repaired and repaired in the Qing Dynasty. In addition to the appearance of the existing city wall with the characteristics of the Ming Dynasty, the main regulation and structure of the existing city wall are basically the objects of the Liao Dynasty. Crenels, observation holes and perforations are set up on the top of the low wall. There are 16 horse faces in the whole city wall (including the horse face of the gate). The horse face is close to the wall, majestic and steady, with different sizes. There were gates on the East, South and west sides of the city wall, but no north gate. There were gatehouses on the original gates, which were destroyed before liberation and during the cultural revolution. The layout of street buildings in the city basically retains the original system. The old Guangwu ancient city is an important material for the study of Liao, Jin and Ming Dynasties. Its shape is unique.
recent developments
In recent years, Shanxi Provincial Bureau of cultural relics has allocated funds to assign special personnel for protection and management. In 1984 and 1991, the city wall, northwest corner horse face and south wall horse face were respectively repaired to make them more colorful. In June 2006, the State Council announced it as the Sixth Batch of "national key cultural relics protection units".
