Lutian nunnery
It is located at the back of the main hall of Gaoshan temple in Lingling District, Yongzhou City, Hunan Province. Huaisu (725-785), a famous calligrapher in Tang Dynasty, became a monk and practiced calligraphy.
Historical allusions
Huaisu
Huaisu became a monk when he was young and loved calligraphy. Because of the lack of paper, they planted a piece of banana, with banana leaves instead of paper.
It is said that the bald pen becomes a grave and the wash ink becomes a pool. Later generations called this nunnery "Lutian nunnery" because of the plantain forest inside and outside the nunnery and the green shade like clouds.
This nunnery was built no later than the middle Tang Dynasty. It was rebuilt in the early Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty and repaired during the Qianlong period. It was destroyed in the war in 1852.
In the first year of tongzhi (1862), Yang Han, the magistrate, was rebuilt. There is a main hall with a banana planting Pavilion on the top and a drunken monk building on the left. Besides, there is a Buddhist sutra house, beside which are the steles written by Chu huaisu.
What will happen
In 1949, it was hard to see the old appearance of the planting banana Pavilion, zuisheng building, shuchan jingshe and Buddha Hall. The remaining main hall was demolished by the regional psychiatric hospital in 1981. Now, only one piece of the Qing Dynasty copy of huaisu cursive script "QianZiWen" is left.

An explanation of Liu Dao's works
This paper is selected from Volume 3 of Lingling county annals in the second year of Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty.
Lutian nunnery, located on the east mountain of Lingling District, Yongzhou City, is the place where monk huaisu, a famous calligrapher of the Tang Dynasty, practiced and practiced calligraphy. The site still exists, including the pen tomb, ink pool and so on.
There are many poems on the rocks inside and outside the nunnery.
Yongzhou out of the East Gate northbound half a mile, on the small hill, and half a mile, for the green Tianan, the former residence of Tang Monk huaisu also.
It is said that in huaisu's kindergarten, there is no paper in it, but more than ten thousand banana trees are planted for spreading. So the temple is named after it, but it is abandoned.
Guimao, a Buddhist monk on the right side of the river, visited the ruins and lived in Maoyan.
Washing stone and planting banana are very elegant.
To the east of the nunnery, there are three small halls. A statue of Pilu Buddha is offered in China. There is a plaque on the front eaves, with the four characters of "ancient green Tianan" written in eight parts, which is also inscribed by Liu Gongwei.
The first three rooms are semi - Jialou, with a view of ten li from the East.
Xiaoshui such as belt, mountain emerald, with the sill four overlooking, it can be refreshing.
The grotesque rocks behind the hall are of different sizes.
The stone is engraved with the word "Yanquan", which is about three inches in size. It is beautiful and elegant. I don't know where to inscribe it. The natives said: in the old days, there was a clear spring, which slanted through the stone, and wagered in twists and turns. It was enough money to make a pot. Now there is no more trickle.
There are several banana plants in SHIXIE, which are covered with flowers.
There is a stone in the right corner of the hall, which is round, two feet high and big around. There are inscriptions on it, which can't be recognized. It's the top of the tower of huaisu's pen tomb. In the past, huaisu's pen was withdrawn as a grave, and later generations attached great importance to it.
Now the pagoda has been abandoned, but it can only be preserved at the top of the pagoda.
The gate is due north. More than 70 steps out, slightly West, for ink pool, it is said that huaisu wash inkstone. The pool is square and surrounded by stones. It is uplifted in the South and slightly lower in the East, West and North.
It is two feet deep, seven or eight feet from north to South and six or seven feet from east to west. It is dry and waterless, and the grass is covered. Although it's desolate and unclean, the track of linchi Dihuan in the past depends on our eyes.
Ho ho! Huaisu, a master of cursive writing, was famous for moving the whole world and spreading his voice to different generations. Up to now, those who have passed the place can't live on their own.
One ink pool, one pen mound, and cherish, visit and repair it, for fear of less than; Kuang Mingde Fengye, accumulated wealth, the rise of indomitable, profit by the people's society! I remember it because I felt it, so as to summon later generations.
