Daxianfeng Nature Reserve
Daxianfeng nature reserve is located in Xushan village, Pingshan Township, Datian County, with a total area of 6893 hectares, including 1848 hectares of core area. The main protected objects in this area are the first and second class national protected animals and plants.
Daxianfeng has two main peaks and two secondary peaks. The main peak, 1553.4 meters above sea level, is the highest peak in Datian County. There is a chongshengyan temple built in the Song Dynasty on the hillside. The temple covers an area of more than 2000 square meters, with upper and lower Buddha halls, 17 Buddha halls and more than 70 monk houses, covering an area of 2000 square meters and can accommodate more than 1000 people. The temple was destroyed in a mountain torrent in 1959, leaving only the old site. At the beginning of 2003, daxianfeng was listed as a provincial nature reserve.

Daxianfeng Provincial Nature Reserve, located in the south of Datian County, is the center of Fujian Province, involving 5 townships and 12 administrative villages, including Pingshan Township, Shipai Township, Xieyang Township, Wuling Township and Wushan township. The geographical coordinates are: 117 ° 47 ′ 02 ″ - 117 ° 53 ′ 00 ″ e, 25 ° 32 ′ 02 ″ - 25 ° 38 ′ 01 ″ n. The main protected objects of the reserve are the middle subtropical evergreen broad-leaved forest and Pinus taiwanensis community. It belongs to forest ecosystem type nature reserve.
Geomorphological features
The landform of the nature reserve is mainly Zhongshan, with High East and west sides and low middle. The terrain inclines from south to north. Daxianfeng is located in the east of the nature reserve, with an altitude of 1553.4m. It is the highest peak of Datian County. The mountain is steep. The altitude of Xiangshan in the southwest is 1432m, and Dagu Mountain in the middle is 1389m. The altitude of laocuo at the foot of daxianfeng in the north is 490m, with a relative elevation difference of 1063m. The soil types in the nature reserve are divided into red soil, yellow red soil, yellow soil and alpine meadow soil. The climate is in the middle and south subtropics, with four distinct seasons. The annual rainfall is 1800-1900 mm, and the average annual temperature is 16-18 ℃.

In terms of vegetation division, the Nature Reserve belongs to the evergreen Castanopsis carlesii community in the eastern mountainous area of Nanling Mountain in the middle subtropics of the eastern humid forest zone of China. From low altitude to high altitude, there are six vegetation types: evergreen broad-leaved forest, evergreen coniferous broad-leaved mixed forest, bamboo forest, coniferous forest, shrub and Zhongshan meadow.
The reserve is rich in plant resources, and 582 species of wild plants belonging to 129 families have been identified. Among them, Taxus chinensis var. mairei is the first-class national protection plant, and Phoebe bournei, Cinnamomum camphora, Torreya grandis, beech, palm tree, golden dog and 12 orchids are the second-class national protection plants.
Animal resources
The fauna of the Nature Reserve belongs to the eastern hilly plain subregion of central China in the Oriental realm. 210 species of wild animals in 45 families have been identified, including 10 species in 10 families of 6 orders of mammals, 59 species in 20 families of 11 orders of birds, 19 species in 8 families of 3 orders of reptiles, 16 species in 5 families of 2 orders of amphibians and 11 species in 6 families of 5 orders of fish. There are 20 species of wildlife listed in the national key list, among which 5 species are under the first-class national protection, such as leopard, clouded leopard, white necked pheasant, Python and turtle, and 5 species are under the second-class national protection, such as macaque, pangolin, VIVERRICULA indica, Viverra zibetha, Silver Pheasant, spoon chicken, forest carving (jctinaetus malayensis), brown winged crow cuckoo, brown forest owl and tiger frog (Rana) 15 species. The South China tiger was also found in the 1960s. In addition, there are 506 species of insects and 9 species of Macrofungi in 5 families.

In March 1996, the provincial botanical society organized experts and professors from Biology Department of Xiamen University, Provincial Institute of subtropical plants, Bioengineering College of Fujian Normal University, Sanming Institute of fungi and Fujian Agricultural University to investigate daxianfeng and its adjacent areas. It was concluded that daxianfeng was the first peak in Datian County, with a large area of Pinus taiwanensis forest and evergreen broad-leaved forest preserved, and the vegetation was vertically distributed In 2001, Datian County Government set up the leading group of daxianfeng nature reserve. In September of the same year, the county government proposed to set up daxianfeng provincial nature reserve. In 2003, it was approved by the provincial government to set up the provincial nature reserve. In 2004, with the approval of the editorial board of Datian County, a management organization of public institutions at the deputy section level was established, with a staff of 6, which is subordinate to the forestry bureau of Datian County.
