Development history
Before the development of Dongtian scenic spot on Changyu Island, shuangmendong has long been famous. Both of them have a history of thousands of years, and the stone culture is profound. Then 300 years ago, the grottoes began to infiltrate Taoist culture. It is said that a great master surnamed Zhang Yisong wanted to find a place where he could hide himself from the mountain and not become an immortal. He walked south to North for many years, and finally found his foothold in Dongtian, Changyu. It was a hot summer, red eyes burning, but the cave was cool. After he entered the cave, he felt very happy and tired, so he decided to settle down in shuangmen cave. After that, he closed the door to chant sutras during the day and went out to watch the scenery at night until he died at the age of 96. The grottoes also began their journey of Taoist culture because of their people. After Master Zhang Yisong, a Taoist named Fang Yang came. One day shortly after Taoist Fang entered the cave for cultivation, he suddenly encountered a strong wind, a heavy rain, a flash flood, and all the nearby villages were destroyed. The villagers fled to shuangmen cave for refuge, burning incense and praying for blessings. They believe that this must be the protection of Taoist gods, in order to avoid this disaster. Therefore, under the leadership of Taoist Fang, the villagers took the initiative to raise funds to build the Lingxiao hall at the entrance of the cave. Since then, incense has been burning continuously. Based on the unique geographical characteristics of the grottoes, later generations began to carve Taoist Scriptures and picture books in order to praise Taoist culture.

The term "purple cloud comes out of the hill" originated from Taoism. Ziyun is Ziqi; Xiu is cave. "Purple clouds come out of the hill" means "purple clouds come out of the cave". It implies that shuangmen cave is a Taoist cave. It is said that Lao Tzu, the founder of Taoism, was preparing to leave the Zhou Dynasty for the Western Liusha kingdom to educate foreign nations in the face of the declining world. At that time, King Zhao of Zhou had a doctor named Yin Xi, who was good at observing the signs of stars in the sky. He observed a purple gas moving from east to West until it reached Hanguguan (the territory of Lingbao in Henan Province near Shanxi Province), and knew that a saint would pass by there.
