The old zoo was closed on September 16, 2012 and moved to the new one. The east gate of the new zoo is on Jiankang West Road. About 600 meters west of Fuli garden is the gate of liushuwan scenic area. The south gate is on Huaihai West Road, about 100 meters to the west at the intersection of Huaihai West Road and Jiankang West Road
development history
Huai'an zoo was originally developed on the basis of Wang's surname "Fuxing zoo" in 1958.
In 1977, in the southwest of Nanyuan (now Chuxiu garden in Huai'an City), the site was selected for land acquisition to build a new garden. According to the animal evolution process, reptiles, birds, raptors, small beasts, raptors, herbivores, primates and other animals were arranged in a scientific and reasonable way according to the animal habits of the natural environment, and bird hall, small animal room, waterfowl lake, xiongshan, large monkey mountain, raptor hall, etc. were successively designed and built Deer garden, complex building and other animal exhibition, breeding, management room. At the same time, 67 species and 700 plants were planted in the garden. By the end of 1997, the green coverage rate of the garden reached 90%.
With the development of society, the old zoo has been unable to meet the needs of the public. In May 2009, the construction of the new zoo started.
On September 16, 2012, the old Huai'an zoo was closed and the animals moved to the new site. The main entrance of the new site is located at 198 Jiankang West Road (west side of liushuwan Square), and the secondary entrance is located at the east side of the junction of Huaihai West Road and Hanhou Avenue. The new park covers an area of about 25 hectares, which is nearly eight times larger than the original, and the animal species are three times larger. The full ticket is 30 yuan per person. The tickets are free for the elderly over 70 years old with valid identity documents, and half price for full-time school students.
Animal species
Huai'an zoo has national first-class protected animals: Amur tiger, leopard, Red Crowned Crane, black vulture, giant lizard, giant salamander, white stork, red faced stork, Red Crowned Crane, brown eared pheasant, great bustard, sika deer, etc. National second level protected animals: Asian elephant, zebra, doctor monkey, Mongolian wild donkey, red panda, black bear, brown bear, wild goose, rhesus monkey, Wren, white eagle, etc.
Huai'an zoo is the largest wildlife zoo in Northern Jiangsu.
Current situation in the park
By the end of 2012, the new zoo covers an area of about 360 mu, with 2000 square meters of various animal cages and nearly 600 animals of more than 60 species. There are hundreds of flowers, plants and trees, and the green coverage rate is more than 90%. There are more than 60 employees, including 10 scientific and technological personnel, 5 with intermediate title or above, 3 scientific and technological personnel of wildlife, and more than 20 zoo keepers. The average annual tourist volume is 200000, and the annual income is more than 1 million yuan.
Reproductive achievements
It has bred 20 kinds of animals and hundreds of them, including African lion, camel, sika deer, rhesus monkey, peacock, Silver Pheasant, golden pheasant, ring necked pheasant, alpaca, etc. In particular, in 1996, we studied the reproduction of Amur tiger, a national first-class protected animal. On May 31, 1997, we successfully bred one cub. After expert evaluation, under the condition of artificial breeding, this achievement has reached the advanced level in China.
