Gezhouba Sanjiang Bridge

Gezhouba Sanjiang bridge, also known as Fenghuang bridge, is located in Xiling District, Yichang City, Hubei Province. The bridge was completed and opened to traffic in 1981. The dam site is 2.3km away from nanjinguan of Xiling Xiakou, 37km away from the Three Gorges Dam, and 4km away from the center of Yichang city. It is named because the dam site crosses Gezhou, a small island in the middle of the river. It was originally used to transport materials for the construction of the Gezhouba Dam. After the completion of Gezhouba, the bridge became a civil bridge. The bridge connects Yichang city with Xiba island in the center of the Yangtze River, and becomes an important traffic artery between the land and Xiba island.

Gezhouba Sanjiang bridge (also known as Fenghuang bridge) is a bridge connecting the North Bank of the Yangtze River and Xiba, a small island in the river.

The total length of Sanjiang bridge is 1117.14m, the main bridge is 94 + 158 + 94m, double box single room T-shaped rigid frame, approach bridge is 8 × 30 + 7 × 20 + 16.34m T-shaped beam, bridge deck net width is 11 + 2 × 2m, design load is grade-36, reinforced concrete hollow pier, bridge height is 52.667m, T-shaped structure adopts cantilever construction.

The bridge was completed and opened to traffic in 1981. Due to disrepair and poor road conditions, Yichang city carried out comprehensive maintenance in 2006.

Gezhouba is located at the outlet of the Three Gorges of the Yangtze River and in Yichang City, Hubei Province. The dam site is 2.3km away from nanjinguan, Xiling Gorge. It is 37 km away from the Three Gorges Dam and 4 km away from the city center of Yichang. It is named because the dam site crosses Gezhou, a small island in the middle of the river. There are two small islands in the river, Gezhou and xibazhou, which divide the Yangtze River into three waterways, namely, Dajiang, Erjiang and Sanjiang. Gezhouba Water Control Project spans Dajiang, Erjiang, Sanjiang, Gezhou and xibazhou. The upstream of the dam leads directly to nanjinguan, while the downstream of the dam leads directly to the city center. No.3 shiplock is located in Sanjiang waterway. Huangbaihe bridge is on the upper right of the shiplock, and Sanjiang bridge is on the lower right of the shiplock.

After the water of the Yangtze River came out of Nanjin, the surface of the river suddenly opened up and widened from 300 meters to more than 2200 meters. The river water is divided into three parts by Gezhouba and Xiba islands in the river, which are called Dajiang, Erjiang and Sanjiang respectively. Erjiang and Sanjiang only flow during flood period, and Gezhouba Water Control Project is built here.

Gezhouba Sanjiang bridge is designed as a two-way two lane bridge. It is a subsidiary project of Gezhouba project and is now managed by Gezhouba Group. As a special bridge for the construction of Gezhouba Water Control Project, it is mainly responsible for heavy traffic and transfer of building materials. After the completion of the project, the bridge will be transformed into a city bridge to undertake the daily traffic between the city and Xiba

After the completion of the Gezhouba Water Control Project, it can further reach the South Bank of the Yangtze River through the crest of the Yangtze River dam. Therefore, the "Gezhouba Sanjiang bridge" (the combination of Gezhouba Dam and Sanjiang bridge) has become a veritable bridge across the Yangtze River.
