Jilin Songhua Lake Scenic Area

Songhua Lake, Fengman reservoir, is located on the Songhua River in Jilin City, Jilin Province. It is the largest lake in Jilin Province. It is an artificial lake formed by intercepting Songhua River water and constructing Fengman Hydropower Station in 1937. In 1988, Songhua Lake was approved as a national key scenic spot by the State Council.

The lake is 94km wide from east to west, with an average water depth of 30-40m, the deepest depth of 77.5m and width of 10km. The total length of backwater is 180km. The total area of the lake is 550km2, the maximum storage capacity is 10.8 billion cubic meters, and the lake is 266.5m above sea level. The water sources into the lake are mainly from Songhua River, Huifa River, Jinsha River, Lala River, Muji River and Piao river.

In spring, wild flowers bloom on the lakeshore cliffs, full of vitality. Many tourists come here for boating and picnics in this season. The boat sails up from Wuhu island and will soon arrive at hualazi.. Along the coast of Songhua Lake, there are 210000 hectares of forests, including Fraxinus mandshurica, birch and other natural forests, such as Pinus koraiensis, Pinus bungeana and other artificial forests. Mountain forest is rich in ginseng, Schisandra and other medicinal materials, as well as mountain grape, hazelnut, mushrooms and other specialties.

Along the coast, small Lazi protrude from the lake, with a forest of strange rocks and pine forests on the back of the hillside, presenting a picture of quiet water, strange rocks and beautiful pines.

Winter: the surrounding mountains are covered with silver, the lake is frozen, and the surface is as flat as a mirror.

Development and protection

Songhua Lake attracts people in the city with its beautiful natural landscape. In June 1994, General Secretary Jiang Zemin came here and happily wrote an inscription: "green mountains, green waters and Songhua Lake".
