brief introduction
Cunjin bridge is located on Wenzi River (also known as Chikan River, now Yueying Lake) in Chikan District, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province. It was built in 1925. It was built to commemorate the victory of Zhanjiang people in fighting against the invasion of Guangzhou Bay by the French invaders, expelling foreign strong enemies. After the Anti Japanese War and several construction in 1959 and 1984, it has been preserved to this day. Cunjinqiao is a cultural relic protection unit in Zhanjiang City.
history
In March 1898, the French imperialists made an unreasonable request to the Qing government to rent Guangzhou Bay (Zhanjiang). The Qing government surrendered and agreed to lease the concession. On April 22, the French imperialists sent troops to capture the Canton Bay, planned their own concession, burned, killed and plundered all over the country in an attempt to capture a large area of our territory.
The atrocities of the French army aroused the great indignation of the Zhanjiang people. Under the leadership of Wu bangze and others, the people of Nanliu and Haitou first unveiled the anti French flag and vowed to revolt. They used spears, knives and sticks as weapons to attack the enemy head-on. After that, the anti French struggle surged to Suixi, huanglue and other places. The people of Zhanjiang, holding the belief that "every inch of land should be used as gold to fight against Iraq", vowed to live or die together with the territory, fought the enemy more than ten times and beat back several attacks of the well-equipped enemy.
On November 16, 1899, the Qing government, in spite of the people's opposition, signed the Treaty of Canton Bay concession between China and France.
However, terrified by the resistance of the people in Zhanjiang, the French emperor had to retreat the west line of the concession from wannianqiao (now at Xinqiao sugar factory in Suixi County) to chikanqiao, and the concession scope was reduced from a hundred or ten li to thirty Li in depth. In this magnificent struggle against France, Wu bangze and other national heroes gave their precious lives to defend the motherland.
The origin of the name
In order to commemorate the one-and-a-half-year anti French struggle, the local people changed the name of Chikan bridge to Cunjin bridge.
Rebuilding history
Cunjin bridge is located on the Chikan River (also known as Wenwen River) in the west of the former Guangzhou Bay concession, Cunjin Road, Chikan District, Zhanjiang City. The river connects the moon shadow Lake in Cunjinqiao park. The west of the bridge is the Chinese boundary, and the east of the bridge is the concession. It is a historical building to commemorate the Suixi people's struggle against the French forced rent of Guangzhou Bay in 1898-1899. In 1925, it was built by the gentry and the people in Mazhang District of Suixi County. The original "Cunjinqiao" Lishu bridge was carved with stone. It is now in Zhanjiang Museum.
It was rebuilt during the Anti Japanese War and expanded in 1959 and 1986. It is a stone single arch concrete bridge with a total length of 19 meters, a face width of 11.6 meters and a single arch garden diameter of 6.5 meters. There are railings on the north and south sides of the bridge, and separate roads for people and vehicles.
East and west of the bridge are inscribed by Dong Biwu and Guo Moruo, inscribed by Dong Biwu as "Cunjin bridge", and inscribed by Guo Moruo as "an inch of river and mountain, an inch of gold". Then, the road was renamed Cunjin Road, the park was renamed Cunjin Bridge Park, and the stations and restaurants were named "Cunjin".
In 1959, the people's Government rebuilt the "Cunjin bridge" and erected a stele (with inscription) beside the bridge. Since then, the "Cunjin bridge" has become a symbolic building in the anti French struggle.
In 1960, Guo Mo ruo went to Zhanjiang to watch the Cantonese Opera Cun Jin Qiao. There was a poem titled "an inch of river and mountain, an inch of gold." Cun Jin Qiao was even more famous.
Xishan Park was renamed "Cunjinqiao Park" in 1980 (because "Cunjinqiao" is next to it, and there is a special exhibition of anti French struggle in the Park Museum). At the beginning of 1984, a large-scale sculpture, the commemorative statue of Cunjinqiao's struggle against France, was erected in the park.
Rebuilding the inscription of Cunjinqiao
From 1898 to 1899, the heroic people of Zhanjiang and Suixi held high the banner of national defense and fought bravely against the invasion of Guangzhou Bay Area by French imperialism. Although this huge, one-and-a-half-year struggle against imperialist aggression was suppressed by the combined forces of imperialism and feudalism, the people's will to resist aggression did not falter and their blood did not flow in vain. This struggle not only aroused the fighting spirit of later generations against imperialism and feudalism, but also effectively prevented and exposed the imperialists' fierce flame of invading China and dividing up China at that time, and severely hit the aggressors, forcing the French imperialists to reduce the scope of lease, reducing the lease area by about 30 Li from the original one hundred and ten li deep, and shrinking from the boundary of wannianqiao not far from Suixi County As small as the Chikan bridge, which is 40 li away from the county seat, is the boundary of the bridge now rebuilt.
To commemorate the struggle against France, the local people renamed the bridge Cunjinqiao. What a name that can express the patriotic thoughts and feelings of the people. It is "an inch of mountains and rivers, an inch of gold", the motherland's landscape is so magnificent and charming; "rather cut off the head, vow to fight for an inch of land", the people's will to defend the motherland is so resolute and heroic. Cunjin bridge, once sprinkled with the blood of anti French martyrs, once buried the heads of martyrs. However, the wishes of the martyrs did not come true until fifty years later. In 1949, under the leadership of the Communist Party of China, when the Chinese people stood up, the land really belonged to the people, and the era of imperialist aggression against China was really gone forever. In order to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the founding of the people's Republic of China and the 61st anniversary of the anti French struggle, the people of Zhanjiang rebuilt the bridge at the call of the party. We can imagine how happy the martyrs are; we can imagine that the blood heads of the martyrs will turn into spring mud and fertile soil, cultivating the red flowers and green trees by the bridge, and making the motherland prosperous. And our descendants, wandering on the bridge, after remembering the martyrs and recalling the past, should better carry forward the patriotism of the martyrs, and turn the deep memory of the martyrs and the deep hatred of imperialism and feudalism into the vigor and surging enthusiasm of the middle heaven to build our increasingly magnificent socialist happiness.

Cunjinqiao Memorial square, located in Yueying Hubei garden, Cunjinqiao Park, Chikan District, Zhanjiang City, Guangdong Province, was officially started on November 1, 2002. The project lasted only three months. The total investment is 4 million yuan. On January 28, 2003, the unveiling ceremony of Cunjin Memorial square was held in Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province.
Cunjin Memorial square is built on the basis of Cunjin bridge, covering an area of 2.36 hectares. The main body of the memorial square is a large art relief wall in the center of the square. The black granite base is engraved with the words "every inch of land, every inch of gold, forever" and "1898-1899". The relief is carved from red sandstone, which is divided into five pieces: "beacon smoke in the South China Sea", "red earth soul", "bloody Anti Japanese War", "Ode to loyal soul" and "pillar of peninsula". The figures on the whole relief wall are vivid and atmospheric, which makes people feel patriotic. The inscription on the back of the relief wall briefly records the heroic deeds of Zhanjiang people's anti French struggle from 1898 to 1899 and the origin of Cunjinqiao. On the left side of the inscription is Dong Biwu, former member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and vice president of the state, who wrote an inscription for Cunjinqiao when he came to Zhanjiang in 1964; on the right side is Guo Moruo, former vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, who wrote a poem in Zhanjiang in 1961.
The completion of Cunjin Memorial square not only increases the leisure places for citizens, but also adds a new landscape for urban construction and improves the cultural taste of the city. It includes the history of commemorating Zhanjiang people's resistance to the law, and also shows the spirit of Zhanjiang people in the new century.
