Mr. Tan Kah Kee built a dike on the beach in 1950 to reclaim the outer, middle and inner pools. The outer pool, commonly known as "Dragon Boat pool", is 300 meters wide and 800 meters long, with a total area of 240000 square meters. Dragon Boat pool held the first "Jiageng Cup" International Dragon Boat Invitational Competition in 1987.

There are seven pavilions of different styles, namely "Qiming", "Nanhui", "Changgeng" and "Zuo", "you", "Feng" and "Yuan". Dragon boat race is held in the Dragon Boat Festival, where the golden drums are singing together, the waves are shining and the voices are boiling. Dragon Boat pool

It is located at the seaside between the south side of Aoyuan road and Longchuan road in Jimei. There are several glazed tile roofed terraces, verandahs and pavilions built around the pool. The "Nanhui" pavilion in the middle of the north bank is used as the subjective scenery platform and command platform. The building is a verandah type, 48 meters long and 8.5 meters wide, with double octagonal pavilions at both ends and a sharp top. The middle is a two-story building with double eaves on the top. The pavilions around the Dragon Boat pool are an important part of the Dragon Boat pool, which have strong architectural style of Southern Fujian influenced by Southeast Asian culture.

Dragon Boat Race Culture

In order to compete with other countries, Jimei selected young fishermen from each fangjiao to set up her own team of Xiamen Jimei Dragon Boat pool, and specially built a shuttle boat with a dragon like body and 18 people. The origin of Dragon Boat Race

The history of Jimei dragon boat race can be traced back to 1953. Mr. Tan Kah Kee, a patriotic overseas Chinese leader and educator, actively advocated water sports, personally supervised the construction of 10 dragon boats, and organized villagers and teachers and students to train rowing skills. After that, around the Dragon Boat Festival every year, in order to remember the school leader, a mobile "Jiageng Cup" dragon boat race was set up. Residents of histology village and schools participated in the competition. Jimei dragon boat race has become an important regional and international brand event.

Dragon boat race development

In 1987, the Dragon Boat pool held the first "Jiageng Cup" International Dragon Boat Invitational Competition.

In 2006, Jimei cross-strait dragon boat race was sponsored by the social sports guidance center of the General Administration of sport of the people's Republic of China and China Dragon Boat Association.

Since 2011, Jimei dragon boat race has been upgraded to a national level event.

The 2012 event has been included in the calendar of the State General Administration of sport and the annual event plan of the China Dragon Boat Association. The event is hosted by the social sports guidance center of the State General Administration of sport, the China Dragon Boat Association, the Xiamen Municipal Committee of the Chinese people's Political Consultative Conference, and the Fujian Provincial Sports Bureau, and undertaken by the Xiamen Municipal Sports Bureau, the people's Government of Jimei District, the Jimei School Committee, and the Xiamen Radio and television group.

In 2014, the cross strait < I (Jimei) < / I dragon boat culture festival and "Jiageng Cup" and "Jingxian Cup" cross strait dragon boat races were held in Xiamen Jimei Dragon Boat pool. 66 teams from both sides of the Taiwan Strait, Hong Kong and Macao competed in Jimei Dragon Boat pool to celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival. The 23 man Dragon Boat tug of war is the first in China.

Jimei Dragon Boat pool and its seven star pavilions

Dragon Boat pool, also known as big pool or outer pool, is located in the south of Daonan tower. It is about 800 meters long, more than 100 meters wide and covers an area of more than 10000 square meters. It can set up eight competition channels. It was originally a large pond formed after Chen Jiageng built the South dike in 1950. After 1954, Chen Jiageng began to organize villagers' teachers and students to carry out dragon boat training and competition in the pond. In the middle and late 1950s, he continued to build and beautify the dike and surrounding environment, making it an ideal pool for competition. According to Jimei folklore, it was originally planned to design "Qiming", "Nanhui", "Changgeng" and "Zuo" buildings around and in the center of the pool
