Jiangxi Academy of forestry is a public institution directly under the people's Government of Jiangxi Province.
Academy of forestry is mainly engaged in basic research, application research, development and utilization of key scientific and technological issues in the development of forestry industry, such as forest genetic breeding and forest resource cultivation, economic forest research such as woody grain and oil, application research of agricultural and forestry biotechnology, etc.

Historical evolution
In August 1956, Jiangxi Forestry Research Institute was established in Meiling, Nanchang Suburb, under the Jiangxi forestry department.
In April 1961, it was renamed Jiangxi Institute of agriculture, forestry and reclamation Sciences, and merged with the general school of Communist Labor University, but two institutions remained. In administration and business, Jiangxi Institute of agriculture and forestry reclamation science is still under the direct leadership of Jiangxi Provincial Department of agriculture and reclamation.
In October 1968, Jiangxi Institute of agriculture and forestry reclamation science was abolished.
In May 1972, Jiangxi Forestry Research Institute was established in Jing'an County, Jiangxi Province.
In December 1972, he moved back from Jing'an county to Meiling, Nanchang City, and changed his name to Jiangxi Academy of agriculture and forestry.
In May 1980, Jiangxi Institute of agriculture and forestry reclamation Sciences was renamed Jiangxi Institute of Forestry Sciences.

National Gene Bank of rare tree species

National Gene Bank of Camellia oleifera germplasm resources (Nanchang)
As of February 2018, the total construction area of gene bank is 38.5hm2.
Among them, 10 hm2 was built in 1983 and upgraded in 2010 and 2012 respectively. 32 species of Camellia oleifera genetic resources of 7 groups, 185 935 rare camellia varieties, 88 clones and 10 farm varieties of Camellia oleifera were collected and preserved;
Another 28.5hm2, which was completed in 2010 and 2012 respectively, is divided into three areas: collection and preservation area of original (wild) species, collection and preservation area of fine varieties and breeding material area of small population and excellent trees.
