The full name of Fengsheng temple is Shifang Fengsheng temple. In the southwest suburb of Taiyuan City, Shanxi Jinci south. It was originally the villa of Yuchi Jingde, a general of Tang Dynasty. It was built as a temple in 622, but now it is dilapidated. It is said that this was the villa of Yuchi Jingde, a general of the Tang Dynasty. Fengsheng temple has a relic tower, 38 meters high, seven octagonal.
Brief introduction of ancient temples
Temple North Fu Tu yuan has a relic tower, close to mountains and rivers, beautiful scenery. The pagoda was built in kaihuang period of Sui Dynasty, rebuilt in Song Dynasty and rebuilt in 1751. Octagonal seven, more than 30 meters high, each floor has four sides of the door, and around the glass fence, for leaning on, climbing tower overlooking, Jin Fen panoramic view. "Pagoda phixia" is one of the eight scenes outside Jinci temple. In the vicinity of Fengsheng temple, there is a giant locust tree, which is old in stem and tender in branch, green and simple in style.
The origin of ancient temples
It was first built in Wude period of Tang Dynasty. It was originally the villa of yuchigong, the founder of the country. One day, the eminent monk Zhiman asked for advice: "cut off his life, dare to ask whether?" Shi Yun: "the general has the heart of regret, and the apocalypse.". Then he asked, "what if monk Zhai builds a temple?" The teacher replied, "if you have a good heart, you will be blessed forever.". After hearing this, Yuchi Gong kowtowed and hosted a banquet, so he rebuilt his villa as a Fancha. In the fifth year of Wude (622), Li Yuan, the emperor Gaozu of the Tang Dynasty, granted "ten Buddhist temples".
From then on, Yuchi Gong invited eminent monk Zhiman to preside. Fengsheng temple has been revived and abolished many times by wars. During the reign of Jin Zhenyou, except for the relic pagoda, all of them were destroyed by war. In the second year of Huangqing (1313) of the Yuan Dynasty, after the reconstruction of the eminent monk Hong Zhi, he went through eleven generations of Zen masters, including Xigong, Shengong, Yigong, Jiangong, Qiangong, Haogong, Gaogong, Changgong, Huigong, Xigong, etc. Fire broke out in 1358 (the 18th year of the reign of emperor Zhizheng of the Yuan Dynasty). In the 24th year of Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty and the 10th year of Yongle, it was rebuilt by Zen master Yuanjue and demolished in the 1950s. It is said that this pagoda tree has a long history and has been dried up for many years. On March 21 of the lunar calendar in the 21st year of Qianlong (1756 AD), the gathering in Fengsheng temple was very busy. Just as it happened, there was an old Taoist peddling plaster under the withered locust tree. He cried: "the plaster is effective and can cure all kinds of diseases in Han Dynasty. If you are lucky, you can buy it. If you are not lucky, you will not believe it." For a long time, no one bought his medicine. The old Taoist continued to sell: "such an elixir, to buy no one, mortal no blessing, withered locust Yisheng." Having said that, he pasted the plaster on the withered locust tree and swept away. It's a coincidence that in less than a month, the withered locust tree came back to life after death. The branches and buds are very luxuriant. When people saw this, they all exclaimed that the withered locust was called rebirth locust. In fact, as the saying goes, "a thousand years old cypress, a thousand years old pine, old locust sleep hundreds of spring." This dead locust revived probably because it happened to wake up after years of long sleep.
Ancient temple destroyed
In 1213, the Mongols attacked Taiyuan, and Fengsheng temple was destroyed. The Yuan Dynasty was rebuilt by the eminent monk Hong Zhi. In 1950, a sanatorium occupying Fengsheng Temple forcibly demolished all the buildings of the temple on the ground that the temple was broken and not a cultural relic. Shanxi Province once ordered the whole province to learn from this incident and protect cultural relics.
Minglan Xinsheng
In the early 1980s, perhaps out of a kind of psychology of picking up the missing, under the proposal of Yue Weifan, the old mayor, several ancient buildings of different regions, different periods and different styles were moved to the original site of Fengsheng temple. For this, scholars often complained, hoping that the destruction and reconstruction of cultural relics would never happen again.
The existing Fengsheng temple in Jinci temple was rebuilt and relocated in the early 1980s. The main hall, Guodian hall and Shanmen on the central axis are all fine architectural works of yuan and Ming Dynasties. Daxiong hall, moved from Mazhuang Fanglin temple in Dongshan, Taiyuan, originally belonged to the temple; Guodian, moved from Erlang temple in Fenyang, originally belonged to the temple; Shanmen, formerly known as jingqingmen, was the early Shanmen of Jinci, originally belonged to the temple. These buildings from temples, temples and ancestral halls, combined, become today's Fengsheng temple. It is a special building in Jinci.
